THE ATTORNEY-GENERAL filed a string of charges against a key Chinese grey capitalist suspect and 40 others today (Jan. 19) with drug-related offences carrying maximum death penalty, Thai Rath newspaper said this evening.

At 3 p.m. today Ms.  Naree Tantasathien, the attorney-general, ordered the Office of Narcotics Litigation to submit the 332-page indictment of Mr. Chaiyanat “Tu Hao” Kornchaiyanan and 40 others to Southern Bangkok Criminal Court with the police told to chase and arrest those suspects still on the run.

Among the charges the suspects face are setting up an organised crime to distribute category one narcotics and categories two and four psychotropic substances, money laundering, holding firearms, operating a transnational network to commit serious crime, running entertainment venues without permit and allowing foreigners without work permit to work in their business.

I doubt any Chinese national will ever face the death penalty here. All Master Xi has to do is send a brief text to Cha Cha reminding him of his place in the world, and his fealty to China.

  • Death penalty? yeah, sure.

Chinese businessman “Tuhao” and 40 others indicted on multiple charges

Chinese businessman Chaiyanat Kornchayanant, aka “Tuhao”, and 40 other suspects, several of whom are Chinese nationals, were indicted today (Thursday) on multiple charges, including drug trafficking and money laundering, at the Bangkok South Criminal Court.

The move comes after the attorney-general, Naree Tantasathien, gave the greenlight for prosecutors to indict all 41 suspects on charges ranging from criminal association with multinational criminal gangs, drug trafficking, money laundering, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, operating an entertainment venue without permission and hiring foreigners, to working without work permits and providing shelter to illegal immigrants.

Former massage parlour tycoon Chuwit Kamolvisit played a key role in exposing what he described as “grey” Chinese businesses in Thailand, allegedly operated by Kornchayanant and his network.

how about Chuwit for PM?

As if the rest will ever be caught.  Hope he gets a deserving punishment which will make others abandon their operation and or not start.

However, his name sounds suspiciously Thai. Is he Thai Chinese? If so, likely no protection from Xi.

Based on history, he seems qualified to be in Thai parliament.

The government are terrified of the competition.

As the saying goes "Don't steal, the government hates competition"

I could overlook all the organised crime and drug and weapons trafficking bits but working without a work permit, hiring foreigners and providing shelter to illegal immigrants!? There's no going back from that. The death penalty is the only option here.

Now that would be entertaining.

Well I’m quite surprised.Very quick on the mark. I’m not in favor of the death penalty, but this guy and his cronies need locking up for a long time .If only to discourage others doing the same.  I very much doubt he’ll get the deathly penalty, probably quietly extradited at some time., Anyhow’, good riddance and well done  Mr Chuwit  and police who followed up’..Maybe things will change for the better.

Unlikely to do it unless they get the nod from the PM's Chinese boss

one inconvenient raid reveals the tip of the iceberg and happy officials and crims are front page...stay tuned for Justice...A Never Ending Saga or?

Chaiyanat Kornchaiyanant,a China man with a Thai name.

Death penalty ain't gonna happen.

Reality, pass the envelopes around to your 40 associates,if you'll be so kind, there's a good man.

I thought the nationality of suspected criminals was no longer to be reported? That didn’t last long !

  • Popular Post

This is fine....charge them and gaol them......but the real crime is letting them operate here with impunity....and that is the fault of the RTP and likely much higher up officials.

None of these officials have actually been 1: Named or 2: been charged....a couple may have been shuffled about, but actually, nothing has eventuated! That is the real crime!

Only for a particular nationality it would seem.

Will they be given bail, ...then it will all go away , and so will the suspects,*

which is what the Government will really want, don't upset the Motherland.

*leaving behind their assets .

I was surprised to see the mention of the death penalty, somehow I had the impression the death penalty was reserved for people from Myanmar.

Just out of curiosity. Whats with the black police uniform the officer in the picture is wearing?

Is it a special branch of the police?

I  only ever see police in brown.

Throw them in prison where they can reorganize the system there.

  • Popular Post

They won't dare go far in the investigation. Once he threatens to spill the beans on top policemen he will be flown to China.

He is Chinese person received Thai citizenship. When granted Thai citizenship you take Thai name as well as your home country name. It seem high connections and a large political donation smoothed the path of his application.

Good idea, but will need a big ring of security guards 24/7, can be done.

Maybe Chuwit has some ideas how to escape the grips of the military senate. That would be very high value. Maybe Chuwit can partner with the roudy teenagers pushing for the ouster of the PM>>>

No work permits needed?

Off topic, but only a bit. If Chuwit would expose the "agents providing evidence of 800K in the bank" system at Immigration, maybe the whole thing would blow up and instead of losing (tens of?) thousands of spending farangs the government would reform the system allowing a much more reasonable reserve requirement. I'm probably dreaming.
