  • As long as you get politicians saying the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun it will never change. A million mass shootings later that theory isn't working.

No that's what the police called it, from your same article.

The firearm wrested from the suspect was “a magazine-fed semiautomatic assault pistol” that had “an extended large capacity magazine attached to it,” the sheriff said, adding later that he believed the weapon was illegal to own in the state of California.

It was a legal registered gun, that's how they tracked down the shooter. Sounds like an illegal magazine, not an illegal gun.

That may well be the case but I was responding to your post:

As I've already pointed out to you, it was not the article writer but a direct quote from the police, would you rather they did not do that? I'm confused. It was not just the Daily Beast that quoted County Sheriff Robert Luna, multiple other sources did.

Luna described the gun seized from the suspect at the Alhambra location as “a magazine-fed semiautomatic assault pistol” with an “extended large capacity magazine.”

Really? The "gun lobby" didn't even make the top twenty lobby groups according to this list.

The NRA spent about $5 million. By contrast the US Chamber of Commerce and US Association of Realtors EACH spent more than $50 million.

The gun lobby is more than just the NRA.

I'm fairly certain that guns are limited to 5 bullet magazines in California.  Which would be more than enough for a hunter or target shooter.

California shooting death toll rises to 11

WATCH: Suspect 'fancied himself' very good at dance

Congresswoman Judy Chu says that the killer was a serious dancer and offered to give free lessons to people.

She said he divorced his wife in 2005 because he had been very critical of her dance moves.

Chu, the former mayor of Monterey Park, spoke to BBC News outside of a victim’s support centre set up at a group home for senior citizens.

I'm not sure why you're making this so difficult, yes I heard Luna give his talk.

Then maybe you also heard him say “I believe the weapon that was recovered at the Alhambra location is not legal to have here in the state of California.”

More to come on that statement I'm sure.

Yes, plenty, it was a:

Cobray M11 9mm semi-automatic weapon, which is designed to take 30-round magazines that allow for rapid fire.

Well, the NRA is not a major player in lobbying according to Open Secrets.  Care to flesh out your assertion a little? The NRA is the constant boogeyman and pales in comparison to Big Pharma or Big Business in lobbying.

No.  I am just pointing out that the NRA is not alone.

Gun rights groups spent a record $15.8 million on lobbying in 2021 and $2 million in the first quarter of 2022.

These organizations have invested $190 million in lobbying efforts since 1998. Gun rights advocates spent more than $114 million of that total since 2013.

Yep, 15 million is a record for gun rights groups. But compare it to other lobbying efforts and it is a drop in the bucket.  The health care lobby spent more than $500 million. Finance spent $450 million.

https://www.opensecrets.org/federal-lobbying/ranked-sectors

So the gun nuts spent 3% of the largest lobby group.  You really think this is a problem?

Interesting that the shooter was apparently Vietnamese while the victims were presumably Chinese. We will find out the motive soon.

The suspected gunman, Tran Huu Can, appears to be Vietnamese (or he could have been Chinese-Vietnamese).  Two victims' names were released this morning - one had a Vietnamese name the other a Chinese name.  In my experience, some Chinese-Vietnamese have reverted to Chinese names in the West.  We shall probably get more detsials in the coming days.

Seems it wasn't random ... as usual.

Take away from all these shootings;

... arm yourself

... stop p!ssing people off

From 2011 FBI states;

... 12,644 homicides

... 1,481 committed by 'strangers'

Highest by relationship (don't p!ss off wife or GH);

... 2700 by acquaintance

... 552 by wife

... 474 by girlfriend

... 269 total by husband & boyfriend combined ????

Women are 3.8X more deadly in relationships ????

Americans and their guns are like Thais and their amulets.

  Some even try to come into Canada with their USA permit,

packing pistols. They get a big surprise at the border.

So what you're saying is arm yourselves at all times especially if your with your wife people you know and when you go to a dance hall. Got it.

Very surreal video; you'd think there would be head butting, eye gauging, boots, hay makers, biting everything under the sun to take him down not just holding him off at arms length and the gunman eventually just walking away. Kudos to Mr Tsay for disarming him.
