Ukraine war: Russian athletes cannot be allowed at Olympics, Zelensky says

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says that allowing Russia to compete at the 2024 Olympics in Paris would amount to showing that "terror is somehow acceptable".

He said he had raised the issue with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Moscow must not be allowed to use the Olympics for propaganda, he added.

USA has been at war for 200 years nonstop, but they are allowed to compete.

Short-sighted.

Firstly, they will most likely lose due to severe lack of moral support from the entire world.

Secondly, good chance that many, or perhaps all the players including coaches may defect, as they are now finding it difficult to escape from Russia to avoid being drafted into the war, thus causing further embarrassment and shame on Putin.

But we do not have for all the same meter, do we?

I don't know what all the fuss is about. Russians will not be allowed to compete under their own flag but will have to do so as independents. As usual.

Why should pariah citizens from a pariah nation run by despots and serial killers be allowed to participate in an event like the Olympics? I feel bad for the athletes, who have trained hard, many of whom likely do not sympathize with this insane, barbaric war. Perhaps they can compete neutrally, like some of the Belarusian tennis players on the WTA.

Anything that can be done to embarrass and humiliate the ganglord Putin, is a good thing.

Which is exactly the case:

"The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has said Russian and Belarusian athletes could compete as neutrals at the Olympics."

No I think in the end Great Britain and the American Colonies called it a draw.

Perhaps raise the Ukrainian flag and anthem when Russians medal. Then they would feel obligated to not show up on stage.

I'm wondering what would happen is Russia and Ukraine were competing this winter sport;

"The biathlon is a winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. It is treated as a race, with contestants skiing through a cross-country trail whose distance is divided into shooting rounds."

Skiing would be furious, I recon...
