Tragic death of father crushed under the wheels of 18 wheel truck at Chonburi crossroads

Bo Thong police and rescue services were called after a father who had been with his child and wife waiting at the lights on a motorcycle was crushed under the back wheel of 18 wheel truck.

 

It happened at 5 pm in Chonburi, central eastern Thailand, at the Nong Samed crossroads on Route 331.

Dead at the scene from a horrific head injury was Porn Bun-udom, 29, from Buriram.

 

He had been riding pillion on a Honda Wave driven by his wife Wijira Yaemnuan, 31. A two year old child had been in the middle, reported Thai Rath.

 

In tears cradling her child and the dead body of her husband, she said that they had been off to see relatives in Nikhom Pattana, Rayong, when they stopped beside the truck at the red light.

 

But her child became unstable causing her husband to try and hold onto the child. He fell under the back wheel of the truck and was killed instantly.

 

The last thing she remembered was her husband calling out her name.

 

The trucker, 48 year old Marin Somton, said he was alerted to what happened by another motorist and stopped further down the road.

 

Police were interviewing all concerned after the tragedy.

Tragic... I hope that poor child does not grow up blaming themselves for their fathers demise. 

It was his responsibility and his alone to ensure he didn’t ‘fall off’ a moving motorcycle.

The motorcycle culture here is depressingly tragic.  So many needless deaths.

Personally, I fid it very alarming and sad that so many young children (including babies) are transported on motorbikes, positioned between 2 adults - usually Mum and Dad - with no protection. RIP young father.

Indeed….   I also wonder what viable alternatives there are if laws were strictly enforced….…. i.e would there be better alternatives because there becomes a demand for them (more baht busses / tuk tuks etc).
