Why the escape character '/'?

All your copy has the forward slash before any quotes, single or double. This used to be to 'escape' the slashed character from being treated as a special character in eg C programming. Surely you can configure your type setters or whatever it is that's doing it, to stop doing it?

I tried to understand the problem from the looking at the HTML source:

Quote

This used to be to 'escape' the slashed character from being treated as a special character in eg C programming.

But what's wrong here?

' is seemingly unicode for the ' ??

It does not effect me in any way (copy/paste within the forum or to external editors).

Or I simply don't get your problem?

Can you post a screenshot of what you are seeing please?

It's not something I've noticed.

Here are several examples in the topic index. I should have said backslash. Apologies. But is it just me?
