Some were believed to be worth as much as 100,000 baht each. The case happened in Nakhon Sawan at a tourist area called Khao Nor where Nan, 55, sells monkey treats. He had heard a commotion and went to investigate and found three men who had tranquilized 9 monkeys with darts. On seeing him the criminals fled - two were subsequently captured by police and had seven darts with them and food for monkeys. A third escaped. Region 12 vet Phimchanok said that eight of the dazed monkeys were saved but one succumbed to the effects of the tranquilizer dart. Line chat on the phones of the suspects showed that the men could get as much as 100,000 baht each for the macaques. Reading the title, I thought that they were selling THAI PEOPLE for medical research. I was astonished to read that anybody would be ready to pay 100,000 baht for a Thai national.
