Teenage pregnancy is bad, but lack of support system is worse

Teenagers who endure pregnancy without any support, especially from their school, are likely to have babies who grow up in poverty and eventually become young parents themselves.

“Research shows the children of teenage parents, regardless of the sex, tend to repeat the cycle. It then continues with many problems along the way, like broken families, domestic violence and so much more,” said Prof Dr Sompong Jitradub, a member of the Equitable Education Fund and former lecturer at Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Education.

Hence, the joint move by the ministries of Education and Higher Education to prohibit schools and colleges from expelling pregnant students is a step forward, he said.

Bright future despite early pregnancy

Under the new regulation, which went into effect on February 18, educational institutes cannot bar pregnant students from attending class. They can be transferred to another institute, but only of their own volition.

Start with decent sexual education in Thailand.... Not keep everything as it is a big secret and shameful to talk about.

Weird, isn't it. Sex is something that everyone does (in one way or another  ) and is essential for human survival, yet no-one talks about it. We even say 'slept with' instead of had sex with.

Talk about safe sex and using condoms and for girls especially the anti conception pill and morning after pill...and teach boys that if girls say no.. it means no....and nothing else....And not to forget try to teach them that you only want to have sex the love of of your life....and not give yourself to everyone, because giving your body is the most expensive thing you can give to someone... Everybody wants to have a new cellphone and nobody wants to have old used one

Thank you..

my thoughts exactly

It's not really that weird.  There's a lot of stuff we don't talk about directly because it's considered to be rude or a little too informal.

We sort of distance ourselves from our more animal activities, probably because we like to focus on the more intellectual things we do, rather than things that animals do in front of each other without a second thought.

It would probably be a good start to teach young people (especially girls) that boys should actually be held responsible for their actions and women should be treated with at least a little respect.

There's little education or support that is going to improve the life of some naïve, teenage, village girl, who no one cares about, getting knocked up by some random "bad-boy" that is probably only too aware of what he is doing and ready to do a runner as soon as he's had his fun.

But this is likely not compatible with "Thai culture".
