Hair Rebonding

Featured Replies

Does anyone know a salon that does rebonding? I need a trust-worthy one! I don't want them to mess up my long hair. :-) What about prices?

Hi PlainJane,

there's more info on this on the thread called "need beauty info from one cliche to another", but I went to Shiseido at Paragon, (my hairdresser is called Joe), and I was really happy with the result. It's not the cheapest place, thought. If I remember, it cost me about 4000-5000B, and then there's another 1000-2000B of products that you have to buy for it. It also depends on the lenght of your hair -- mine is shoulder lenght.

good luck!

Definately wise to be careful!

I had my near waist length VERY curly hair (italian side of the family) perm straightened in Argentina 2 year ago. A good friend recommended the salon, and I went with the top hairdresser there as she had won awards. My hair however, was pretty wrecked after. I still had to use irons on it, although granted not as much, but the condition was awful. It also lacked body, and of course grew in curly. Its now shoulder length with all the straightened parts cut out. I really mourn the loss of my long hair, but now appreciate my curls more!

I guess you must like the effect if you want to have it done again, but maybe wise to ask the salon you choose to do a strand test, then show you the result. Even if you have to pay for the test, would be money well spent.

I'm debating getting this done. Can anyone explain to me how it works? Also, is it possible to do all but the ends of the hair so that you can still curl your hair under? My understanding is that it leaves the hair utterly flat and un-curlable. And I have heard different things about how long before you can tie your hair back or put it up? I do a lot of gardening and will die if I can't put up my hair while I'm sweltering out there.....

Sheryl, i cant quite recal how long you have to wait before putting your hair up etc (one of the other ladies can prob answer this) but you definately have to wait for a while. As they cuticles have been chemically altered to lie flat anything that kinks them in the early stages could give a perm kink. Also your hair will need a bit of tlc after so anything that pulls on it can cause damage.

When i had my hair done i asked for stronger on the top and less treatment time on the ends so i could have (what i hoped would be) a more wavy look rather than its usual cury (always had to use irons to get that effect). What i got tho was poker straight on top and frizzy dry on the tips. I had to use the irons or curl with a tong. When i first had the ends cut off and new hair (curly) was growing in I tried to curl the bottom so as not to damaging the growing in new hair my hair with straightening irons, but the curls just wouldnt hold. The cuticle was too flat for it to sustain any kind of curly shape. I just had to keep straightening the new growth until i had it all cut out.

I dont know about others experiences of it all, but its not something id want to have done again. If i feel like having super straight hair Ill just use products and good irons and hope the humidity doesnt get to it. But for me even if it curls up its better than unhealthy frizz that has no body to it.

Hair Rebonding - they iron your hair flatter than flat! :D Then they condition it and blow dry it. The result can either be good or devastating depending where you go. It is said that one must wait for 3 days before wetting hair after rebonding. :o

I am not sure if you are in BKK or outside. In BKK there is one place which is very good n trustworthy. PM me if you need more details.

Hi Sheryl,

my hairdresser said six months before I could tie up my hair. It's definitely a bit annoying

For how it works, there are long explanations on the net' but I think it's something like: they put a product on your hair that destroys how the hair fibres bond together, then iron it perfectly straight, then reset it so the fibers bond together now that they are straight.

I got my hair done (hair rebonding) five months to ago to a local salon recommended by a Thai friend. I was very pleased with the results and only annoyed that couldn't wash it for 3 days after I got it done. It did make my hair quite dry from time to time, but with the help of some hair products from Shisheido Senscience (sp?) --it was okay... I could (and did) tie my hair up a week later after rebonding and was surprised with the results-- I could just let it down with minimal brushing -back to its orginial straight way! :D

Lucky me, I have more manaegable hair now :D [not sure how long it will last?!?]

Although, some people I know just made their hair very dry and brittle (looks like a dust broom :o ) I guess it will depend on how your hair will react to the chemicals..

Good luck PlainJane!
