In fact I forgot that I have a hinge up shelf for ease of laundry access.
It is virtually always hinged down,

Is that wood treated with the polyurethane tin you recommended earlier from RTB?

Yes. It has my standard finish regimen. First I use a thinned shellac as a sanding sealer and to add a little gold/yellow tone as I prefer that to the more white of the natural wood, sand to knock down the nibs. I then put enough finish that it looks slightly white, that is a heavy coat and is only possible on horizontal surfaces. I repeat until I get the depth of finish I want.

The RTB goes nicely over both shellac and acrylics, so far I haven’t found a finish that it is not compatible with.

RTB has a shop on Lazada, the finish is not exactly inexpensive.
