Republican leaders of North Carolina's state legislature reached an agreement on how to expand Medicaid in the state, they said Thursday, after years of blocking the policy.

Why it matters: If the legislation becomes law as expected, hundreds of thousands of the state's poorest residents would receive health care coverage.

Both legislative houses are controlled by Republicans. Despite which, the benefits of the Medicaid portion of Obamacare are huge, particularly for rural hospitals which have closing at an alarming rate.  That leaves only 10 states that haven't adopted the Medicaid portion of Obamacare. States that have adopted it include several Republican controlled states that adopted it through referendums overriding the will of the republican controlled legislatures and governors.

Those bad Republicans helping the poor with health care.

Do you understand that this is the Obamacare Medicaid program. The one for which  that the Federal govt pays 90% of the cost?  That one that 10 republican states including Texas and Florida still refuse to implement?

And this opinion from a columnist at the website of arch-conservative The National Review:

Who Won the ‘Obamacare Wars’?

So, yes, Obamacare was a key part of the GOP midterm landslides in 2010 and 2014, but it didn’t sink Obama’s reelection bid, and Republicans couldn’t repeal it when they had the chance. And now even Republican legislatures are acquiescing to the expansion of Medicaid. I think the Democrats got the better end of the deal.
