A minivan carrying ten Russian tourists from Pattaya to Chanthaburi province for visa extensions crashed into a tree, resulting in one tourist sustaining a broken leg. The driver said he was spooked by a screaming tourist who mistook him for napping while driving.

Police officers in Rayong province took the van driver, Mr. Mongkol Srichand, 40, to the police station for questioning after a car accident. The crash took place at 2 PM on Sunday, March 5th, on Sukhumvit Road in the Kong Din sub-district, Klaeng district, Rayong province.

The bronze minivan transporting ten Russian tourists (eight men and two women) from Pattaya to Chanthaburi province for visa extensions rammed into a roadside tree, police said. The foreign passengers were trapped inside the car shortly before they were rescued by local emergency responders. One tourist, who could not be identified, suffered a broken leg, while six others sustained minor injuries. None were life-threatening injuries.

That's okay then. It tells you all you need to know about Thai drivers. He put his passengers in danger by retrieving an inhaler, because that was far more important than keeping his eyes on the road. No wonder the tourist screamed, and in true Thai fashion making it someone else's fault, he blamed the tourist for reacting to his dangerous driving.

The number of implausible reasons that Thai people use to try to avoid responsibility suggests a level of imagination that no one would have thought possible from these people.....

Minibus driver tip:

Wear ear plugs when sleeping to avoid getting startled by screaming passengers.

When wet roads and faulty breaks gets old as an excuse for idiot drivers, the next best excuse is a screaming passenger. What's next blaming the radio because it played loud music.

I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather, not yelling and screaming like his passengers.

Old Joke.

You may as well walk around with a spoon in Thailand the BS and excuses that get dished up. My 6yo boy tells more plausible fibs than these people. Whats the bet the driver not only shirks responsibility for the accident with the most outrageous fantastical story, but has his paw out for damages. Just no shame

I don't understand why the driver didn't just claim it was a "micro-sleep, everybody does it."

I was on a that same route a few years ago, from Pattaya to Pong Nam Rong.

I was with Russians in a minibus.

But It was me shouting at the driver to slow the **** down!

I will never travel in one of those things again.

I heard that a Farang planted the tree also.

What if the same thing happened in your home country? Would you be complaining the same way or be on your way to the lawyer?

the russians probably spotted a borscht and vodka place near the road so he was screaming to stop....to fill up on "medicine"

They were probably screaming because they saw they were going to run into a tree...

Did the same thing on a trip from Pattaya to Bangkok. I was screaming at the driver to slow down as he was driving like a maniac, he just laughed. That was my last mini bus ride in Thailand, over 15 years ago.

Russian roulette you have a 1-in-6 chance...

a mini van in Thailand is considerably less.

Yep, and a non native tree at that. ????

Westerners are so caught up in that 'time is linear' thing. The woman may have screamed because the driver was about to hit the tree, but if one removes linearity, the scream caused the driver to veer toward the tree, eliciting the scream in reverse.

It's easy when cause and effect are not bound by linearity. In fact, it may have been the broken leg of the passenger that prompted the driver, out of great concern and empathy for his passenger, to drive faster in the first place. The broken leg passenger should be grateful, not critical.

In Thailand, anything is possible.
