Sorry if this is the wrong forum but if you don't live in Issan it's of no use to you!

I have just had a kitchen fitted in my house and i think it looks pretty neat.

If you live in North West Issan and need a new kitchen i can recommend these guys. As long as you don't expect them to work quickly!

The cabinets were purchased by the company the fitted, not by me. They are branded Kitchco or something like that, (i'm not at home so i can't check). If you have bought them i think you made a good choice, they appear to be very good quality.

looks good, could I ask how much it cost? you can tell me to mind my own business if you want I won't be offended.

Why would i be offended? Silly to recommend something but keep shtum about the cost! :o

It was quite expensive, 150,000 baht but 60% of that was the costs of the cabinets, (solid beech).

If you look at my (crappy) website you can see the process. Sorry it misses out the completed job but i'll update when i escape from the desert.

if you want to know any more, just ask

It looks very good, and includes that rare commodity in Thailand - units with drawers.

The one thing that I would probably do differently would be the worktops, which in your kitchen are made of coloured ceramic tiles. Manufactured worktops are outrageously expensive in Thailand compared with, say, the UK, and this is a problem area. Many people go down the tiles route. My variant was to use red quarry tiles, laid on a bed of wood and epoxy adhesive, with a hardwood front trim and finished with epoxy grout, which gives the tiles a shine. The epoxy grout was expensive and had to be bought in Bangkok, but it means that the joints are as hard as the tiles and won't crack. I think this has turned out well. I bought pre-made hardwood wall cabinets and matching doors in frames for the base units. These aren't the slated doors - which are cheap and easy to obtain, but a line that Home Pro sell. I'd say though that your units are better than mine.

citizen33 i am happy that i could not get a manufactured worktop. I think my wife would have preffered one but i really llike the idea of tiles. (when i was in UK i couldn't have afforded to do it like this!). Your worktop sounds nice also, i'd like to see a pic if you have one. My cabinets were premade but i have no idea where the fitters purchased them. I doubt home pro, there's nothing as mordern as that near me!

I am in the process of sending a kitchen over from the uk, without worktops, at the moment we have a Kitchen a bit like yours which we are ripping out, as the tiled tops are prone to hold grime in the joints, we are having marble worktops cut in korat,as marble is as cheap as chips in Thailand, our kitchen is 30 foot long by 15 foot wide so we are having 2 big breakfast bars. myself i do not like the way thais build the thai kitchens, i would prefer a ultra modern uk style kitchen, with marble tops, everyone has there own taste.

Saying that they have made a good job of yours, and it looks good, so hope you have many years of good cruisine.

Fridge is under the stairs and the sink is outside. My lady did not want a sink in the kitchen. I didn't understand the reasoning, but she's the boss in the kitchen.

Nidge's cabinets are manufactured by Kitzcho. You can purchase from Homemart or Global shops throughout Isarn. Kitzcho are exceptionally well built. They are solid wood (none of that crappy particle board) and have the best hardware (hinges and drawer slides) I have found in locally manufactured cabinets. I used them in my bathrooms. Prices are reasonable as compared to imported units. A 3 drawer base unit is about 7,300 baht, and a 2 door upper cabinet 4,900 baht. Both Homemart and Global didn't have installation but can give you local contractor contacts for installation so you will need to check them out as to price. The downside is Kitzcho do not have base cabinets but rather only have the doors and drawer units which are fine for the Thai style kitchens such as Nidge's. As with Thaicoon, I prefer the more western style kitchen. So off I went to find a solution to the base cabinet issue. My kitchen is L shape 10 X 12 feet. I found a solution at Koncept furniture here in Roiet. They offer cabinets manufactured by In-Touch. The wood is on a par with Kitzcho. The hardware not quite as good but adequate. I gave Koncept a sketch of the kitchen I wanted and they came back with a quote which included cabinets (combination of 12 base and upper), counter top (Black India Marble) and installation. Sink and appliances not included. Total price is 80,000 baht. I haven't had it installed yet but intend to do so in the next couple of weeks. Will report on how the installation goes later.

I also used the Kitzcho cabinets and drawers for my kitchen I had installed last year. I puchased them from IQ Moderntrade here in Surin. Kitzcho has their own rep's and carpenters that will come to your home and help you with a plan and do the complete installation for you. My kitchen built by them cost around 200,000 baht including the appliances.

Roi-et Jimmy,

Sounds like you have your finger on the pulse in the Roi-et region. I'm currently building about 40km from Roi-et towards Suwanniphum . could you maybe inform me if you have been building a house in the Roi-et area, and who you have been dealing with to purchase appliances, ie: air cond, bathroom access (spa bath, shower unit, vanity, toilets, fans,) kitchen, etc!

I am having the builder build the house and i intend supplying these extras. Initially i was going to buy them from Bangkok, but i am wondering if thats necessary, as it appears you can get a good price in the Isan area.

Also after large u/ground water tank, water pump, hot water system, and possibly a water filter system. Any ideas anyone???? I'm away working overseas, and returning during the building phase every 8 wks or so. So you can imagine i need to get it right the first time, as i most probably wont be onsite when installation occurs.

Thanks,

Greg

PS: Some great looking designs and kitchens here guys! Good site!

I think the answer to this would be Global House on the Roi Et Ring Road, or Makro on the road heading towards Mahasarakham from Roi Et city centre. Makro can be quite good for aircon and white appliances. Home Mart and Tesco on the same road as Makro are also possibilities, but the latter is quite small as Tesco superstores go. I built a house in an adjoining province a few years ago and got most of my stuff from Global House (Roi Et), Makro, Tesco and Big C (Khon Kaen) and Home Pro (The Mall, Khorat). That was before Global opened a branch in Khon Kaen. I bought most of my tiles from two specialist suppliers in Khon Kaen near Tesco. Other materials are best bought from local builders merchants, or specialist timber merchants I've noticed that specialist air cond shops are giving more competitive prices these days, especially since they include fitting where Makro and Global do not. There isn't too much that you can get in Bangkok but not Khorat or Khon Kaen. In my case, it was epoxy grout and twin 13 amp cable with earth (though I've seen his this since in Global House).
