A United Nations report has warned of a looming global water crisis and an "imminent risk" of shortages due to overconsumption and climate change.

The world is "blindly travelling a dangerous path" of "vampiric overconsumption and overdevelopment", the report says.

Its publication comes before the first major UN water summit since 1977.

Create a crisis and then step in to provide the solution.  An age old tactic.  It all leads to social engineering and all for a price to be borne by those who can least afford it.

Really? Tell that to the citizens of America's southwest where water levels on the major electric generating reservoirs are approaching the point where they won't produce electricity. Tell them how everything on the Colorado river is just fine. And while you're at it, tell them that Saudi owned farms that are draining the aquifer so they can grow alfalfa to feed their dairy  cows in Saudi Arabia  are nothing to worry about.

As @placeholder a lot of people in the Southwest of the US are suffering.  It's interesting that the right-wingers who have built in unincorporated areas and had nearby cities provide water because their wells are dry are wanting the government to force the cities to provide them with water.  The cities say they can't.   These are the same people, from the same places, who don't want the government telling them what to do.  Apparently, it's OK for them to decide what others have to do.  It seems to me it's just a matter of who gets to do the 'social engineering'.

Water is a strategic natural resource and an essential element of national and regional security. Water scarcity, including lack of access to water, and water pollution can threaten socio-economic development and political stability and security. Water management challenges can potentially trigger disputes and conflicts;

While the west has been slowly rotating in diminishing circles about such as homosexuality, gender identity, abortion, PC and wokeism, a very real crisis over drinkable water is looming. As sod all has been done about it so far, it will IMO turn into a disaster.

They could have been building solar powered desalination plants for the 20 or so years it's been known about, but other than Saudi I know of no major desalination projects.
