All I see are bums around Ekkamai

Ekkamai is quite a large area. Many people who work in Bangkok stay there, otherwise it is of not much interest. Hanging around aimlessly at Gateway isn't good for anyone.

But actually On Nut is one of the best areas in Bangkok, very convenient and not expensive. So many many malls, supermarkets, different stores concentrated in one area.

Well, I hate the place.

Full of cheap decrepit condos that were sold as luxury developments less that 10 years ago. I know, I was here. The malls are just a bit bigger than community malls. The traffic makes Bangkok pollution even worse. W district is ok for younger people. Much better places around MBK (samyan) Silom, Sathorn..... but of course it costs more to live there. I used to live on Ramkhamheang near Bangkapi mall. Much better choices of everything than On Nut will ever offer including Western food choices.
