Late last year, news broke that Apple Inc. was planning to shift production from China to Thailand, it now appears that this move is becoming a reality.

According to a report by Nikkei today, the multinational technology company based in California is currently in discussions with suppliers regarding the manufacturing of MacBooks in Thailand, as part of its strategy to expand manufacturing outside of China.

Sources close to the discussions have revealed that these suppliers already have existing manufacturing complexes in Thailand, which they use for other clients. They are now exploring the possibility of producing and assembling components and modules for MacBooks. This move comes as Apple and its key suppliers aim to avoid the potential impact of Sino-US trade frictions, particularly in light of the five years of heightened tensions between the two nations and the US tariffs on Chinese goods.

In December 2022, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo tweeted that Thailand might become the main production location outside of China for Apple’s future MacBooks.

Anything to reduce dependence on China, and the heinous CCP, has to be a good thing. Though, I would not consider the army regime to be a reliable partner either. Let us hope they get evicted next mon

If they cut the price in half... yes.

Airbus also had a done and dusted deal to move into Thailand a little while ago.

That did not materialise, and until Apple actually have a roof over their head here, I will wait with baited breath.

Good! Hate to see the CCP getting a piece of the action where any U.S. company is concerned.

It's all about money in the end.

Don't be fooled by big tech companies .

Now if they would only open more Apple stores here.

It took years to get one.

A deal for what exactly, expand the existing service centre?

The Chinese factory has been on the go since 2008 and the agreement was extended in 2018 until 2025. Only last week a new agreement was agreed to double capacity.

China is the biggest user of Airbus aircraft in the region so the obvious location for production.

China same same Thailand, and quality likely to be worse here.  To make sense to should shift it to highly automated US factories,

Because US manufacturing is known globally for its quality. ????

I would prefer to see the US move its investments and manufacturing to the Philippines. The rest of the region should simply be written off as a Chinese satrapies. Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and the hell hole of Myanmar are all part of the China camp. And Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore are just about there. I think Apple coming here is simply jumping out of the frying pan into the fire.

i read that they were moving to india as well for ipads production

and teslas are moving some production to mexico

As an Apple user and small Apple Stock holder, as well as, a retired American in Thailand, I welcome such news.

No, that is not how modern pricing works. But it may affect the profits at Apple Company.

Girlfriend went to the local Apple store to find out why her iPhone was not charging.  I suggested she needed a new battery, but the guy behind the counter sold her a new charger.  Not the problem.  Went to an independent cell phone shop.  Problem was the battery, like I said.  So much for Apple stores.

What might also effect profits is when fewer and fewer folks are purchasing crappy products.

Just go with 'bated' (as in 'abated' ) and avoid the oral injuries.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.????

A good move for other large companies.
