National — A Chinese tourist was abducted by two suspects at Royal City Avenue (RCA), a famous entertainment venue in Bangkok.

The abduction took place on April 17th when the victim, a 28-year-old female Chinese solo tourist, went to RCA in Bangkok and met an unidentified Chinese man who subsequently invited her to an apartment he rented in the Rama 9 area.

The victim, whose name was withheld by Thai police, was then tied up by the suspect at the apartment. There was another man hiding in the unit. The suspects seized the victim’s mobile phone, cash, and other belongings worth 427,000 baht. They also physically assaulted the woman, having hit her in the face, according to the victim’s statements with police.

In the early hours of April 18th, the two suspects left the apartment for Suvarnabhumi airport and fled Thailand. The woman was rescued and disclosed that she did not know the suspects upon police questioning.

Huai Kwang Police who are responsible for the case and the Foreign Affairs Division are contacting Interpol to issue a Red Notice to arrest the two Chinese men.

International hunt for two Chinese men after kidnap of tourist in Bangkok

The Royal Thai Police are to seek help from Interpol to find two Chinese men who allegedly kidnapped a female Chinese tourist and forced her to pay them a 500,000 baht ransom in return for her released.

The suspects, identified as Tang Xi-wei and Xu-wei, have already left Thailand.

Pol Maj-Gen Noppasilp Poonsawat, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said today (Saturday) that the men rented two rooms at a condominium in the Rama 9 area on April 16th. The 25-year-old victim lived in the same condominium building.

One of the men befriended the victim and, on April 17th, persuaded her into his room and detained her.

The headline is a little misleading, it appears she was not abducted but went willingly with the Chinese gent who then detained & robbed her providing her version of events is true.

Well, I'm a Canadian "tourist" living in a house - as far as the Thai police are concerned. Unless you are a citizen or have Permanent Residence, you are considered a "tourist". Even if you have a wife, children, house, 2 cars, 2 motorcycles, 3 cats, 2 dogs and 12 cows, you are still classed as a "tourist".

At what point did they re-package her into the red cello case and pass her on to their three accomplices?

I am sure that doesn’t happen every minute in Thailand! ????

My mummy told me not to go with strange men, so I never got tied up and had my belongings stolen. Clever, my mummy.

She seems to be bra-less and ready for some interesting philosophical conversation.

Great photo. Looks very up to date. One would think there's a pandemic of some sort. Is this the best they can do? Just so lazy. If I saw this from overseas I would be wondering what the hell is going on in Thailand.

“female Chinese solo tourist” going to RCA alone…. might suggest that she is working there.

427000 baht and a phone might cover the plane tickets. Either the thieves are stupid or this is a setup.

I note that because of this and other incidents, Chinese nationals now have to gain approval from the Chinese Embassy if they apply to extend their stay in Thailand (?!)

Conspiracy theory: these attacks are staged so that the Chinese government has further excuse to monitor its citizens abroad. The victims are innocent of political motive. The perpetrators are not.

Illegal Chinese police stations are being closed down in other countries and their staff arrested but I see nothing for Thailand.

Red notice is no arrest warrant. Thailand has no power to issue international arrest warrants. Not a member of Interpol and they know why they are not. It is just an information.

Another one who "cherry picks" what he reads:-

"One of the men befriended the victim and, on April 17th, persuaded her into his room and detained her."

Especially with 427,000 baht of valuables on her.

It's actually statistically safer to go home with a stranger as the majority of sexual assaults are carried out by someone the victim knows!

Judging by the photo I think she was a Freelancer, maybe why she had an amount of cash,

Not in her case.

So he befriended her on the 17th and she was in his apartment by the early ours of the 18th. She obviously knew him well then.
