BANGKOK (NNT) - The Department of Employment recently inspected Chan Road in Bangkok following claims that migrant workers were working jobs reserved for Thais in the area.

According to the department’s director general, Phairoj Chotikasatien, officials and police from the Immigration Bureau inspected locations from Soi Chan 16 to Soi Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra 14 following claims that migrant workers had taken residence and set up food stalls in these areas.

He explained that the inspection aimed to ensure that migrant workers were living legally in Thailand and not taking employment in occupations and positions reserved for Thai nationals.

During the inspection, officials discovered two migrants working as street vendors who were unable to provide any documentation, in violation of the law. The two were brought to the Suan Phlu Immigration Center to face legal charges.

Migrants found without a permit or performing jobs to foreigners are subject to fines of between 5,000 and 50,000 baht and will be deported back to their home countries.

The director-general warned that authorities will conduct unannounced inspections throughout the kingdom and will strictly enforce the law.

Those wishing to report illegal migrant employment or violations of regulations can contact the department at the Ministry of Labor or employment offices around Bangkok, or call 02 354 1729 or hotline number 1506 ext 2.

Well if there’s only a 1% unemployment rate what are they concerned about? ????????

Money.

If these illegal immigrants are only paid a pittance then the government gets no income tax.
