FTA Products Fair being held at Ministry of Commerce until Wednesday

BANGKOK (NNT) - To promote Thai entrepreneurs’ utilization of free trade agreements (FTAs) the Department of Trade Negotiations (DTN) is holding an “FTA Products Fair” offering premium items from about 40 Thai manufacturers.

700,000 tonnes of fresh durian expected to be sent to China this year

BANGKOK (NNT) - The agriculture ministry aims to export no less than 700,000 tonnes of fresh durian to China this year, generating about 100 billion baht of revenue for Thailand.

Upcoming public holidays and impact on immigration office hours

Thailand is gearing up for three upcoming public holidays that will temporarily shut down government offices, including immigration departments. The first of these holidays, Coronation Day, falls on Thursday, May 4, and will be followed by a “bridge” continuation day on Friday, May 5. The Thai government announced these additional holidays last year as a means to boost domestic tourism as the country started recovering from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

TDRI warns political parties of excessive campaign spending and economic risk

The Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI) has issued a warning to major political parties that their primary election campaign projects might be unnecessary as an economic stimulus, given that the country is not currently experiencing a recession.

Close Call: Dozy Thai driver survives after car plunges into ditch in Rayong

A Thai driver travelling from Chon Buri‘s Bowin sub-district to Rayong province suffered non-fatal injuries after his vehicle plunged into a ditch in the Banglamung district. The driver later admitted to having dozed off at the wheel.

Man with terminal cancer killed by train in Kanchanaburi

A 54 year old man in the final stage of tracheal cancer was tragically killed after being run over by a train in Kanchanaburi’s Muang district. The incident occurred yesterday afternoon when the man, identified as Suparp, lay down on the tracks near a railway station with a cloth covering his face.

Rise in Covid-19 inpatients and deaths expected to increase during Thailand’s rainy season

The number of Covid-19 inpatients in Thailand increased to 1,811 in the last week of April, up from 1,088 in the previous week. Meanwhile, related deaths doubled from 5 to 10 over the same period, as reported by the Department of Disease Control (DDC). These figures saw a rise two weeks after the Songkran festival in mid-April and are anticipated to increase further when the new school term and rainy season commence this month.

Thailand’s export forecast for 2023 suggests 1% growth due to China’s economic recovery

Thailand’s exports are predicted to experience a 1% increase in 2023, with a more significant improvement anticipated later in the year due to the recovery of China’s economy, according to the Thai National Shippers’ Council (TNSC). In a news conference, council chairman Chaichan Chareonsuk stated that although exports faced a downturn in the first quarter, a resurgence is predicted for the remaining months.

Bangkok cyanide importer to be searched in serial murder investigation

Cabinet approves ฿10.4bn to subsidise domestic electricity charges

Roi-et botanical garden chief transferred pending probe into rosewood theft

The chief of the “Dong Ma-I botanical garden of literature” in Thailand’s north-eastern province of Roi-et was transferred for three days today (Tuesday), pending an investigation into his possible complicity in the theft of seized rosewood (Dalbergia cochinchinensis) by about 30 men, several of whom were armed, last Saturday.
