A NINE-YEAR-OLD PRAYUT REGIME is definitely coming to an end since most people do not wish to see caretaker prime minister Prayut Chan-o-cha running the country anymore, confirmed an academic today (May 5).

 

Rangsit University political scientist Thamrongsak Petlertanand said no less than 80% of prospective voters nationwide have been found in recent polls to anticipate an end to the military-led regime since Prayut who is contesting to retain power under the Ruam Thai Sang Chart tickets staged the 2014 coup as army chief.

 

Thamrongsak cited the polls as saying as many as 82.5% of the respondents have ultimately expressed opposition to the possible setting up of a minority government to prolong the Prayut regime, albeit given overwhelming support from 250 senators.

I know that many people out there hopping for a better life and a better government, but after 35 years here, my bet is that in Thailand like in Thailand, a cosmetic change and nothing more, those politicos are all about keeping their bums on seats and hands on the money.

And this is the thing. As I've been saying the majority hate him but will he go. Will he listen to the will of the people or not and if he doesn't trouble will certainly be the outcome.

It would be an enormous risk for the little guy to attempt to cling to power if he lost the election, and there is little doubt a loss will happen. He is despised for a dozen good reasons.

Thailand most certainly doesn't have the market cornered. Not by a long shot.

The thing about politics in Thailand is that - unlike every Western country - they are (mostly) non-ideological.

 

That is, politics here is not about socialism in its various forms vs capitalism in its various forms. In Thailand it's (mostly) just about personalities and who's got the money and who hasn't ("Who's up who & who hasn't paid").  Which is why you get all the shilly shallying immediately after The People have spoken as individuals, and even some parties, 'change sides' to ensure they'll continue to share in the cake ...

One can only hope, it has already, in my book, exceeded the maximum 8 year statute.  Yet it appears that when you run the country you make your own rules and install similar thinking minds, or at least ones, that do not look at the laws as they are written.  Again just my view and opinion.........

"People" do not vote for a PM. MPs and Senators vote for a PM. OK, MPs and Senators are people too.

 

And most people do not get what they wish for.

 

There are so many ways Prayut could remain PM, some legal, some quasi-legal.

Please tell me how, sans a full scale revolution that would have been ended quickly by the government in power, that what you say could be accomplished in this country. I guess you did not see the arrests of the protestors and charges laid for things that took them out of the spotlight, with a few still being in jail, yet not convicted.

How? Those from the North and North East already in BKK along with the students, youth and the middle class who are not royalists and hate Prayut will take to the streets then the entire North and North East will decend on BKK in support. The military will be overwhelmed. How's that for a senario. Prayut remains in power this counrty will explode.

Well there are many ways including the way many South American countries ended drug cartel puppet regime governments but that aside....

 

You speak of the arrests of the few & that is an exact example of the LACK of patriots. Those that never stepped forward to help the children who were trying to help the country

 

It was at that moment that the majority of folks could have all stepped up & said no. Thai Rak Thai & the soldiers are not going to start shooting relatives.

If millions stepped up & said no

 

The problem is older Thai generations are all conditioned to not question anyone in the position of authority

That goes for all positions of authority from questioning a doctors to teachers who mistreat children or corrupt police...heck even monks are given a free pass due to perceived position of authority/reverence regardless of some terrible acts

 

This is why the only change that WILL eventually come from Thailand is the youth because they alone are at least brave enough to question. This is where it starts but has a long way to go yet.

You'll be waiting a long time for such an event [mass revolution] to come about. 

Thais aren't truly that everyday repressed, as they really have no reason to rebel.

Before the last coup bus loads of Thais came to BKK. Do you not think it will happen again if Prayut defies the will of the people? It's different this time. As for no reason to rebel, Prayut might give them just that reason. My bet is the people will take to the streets. Don't underestimate the Thais.

I do hope so.

It should be remembered that the last time the protestors were facing the police.

If they ever caused real problems then the army who stayed in the background might have had to step in.

There are some in the army who would not want to do their 'duty.' But most would.

There are also more secret forces who can be used. Difficult to say more.

It is to be hoped the democratic forces win the election, the result is quickly accepted and Thailand can be governed for the people.

Not everybody I talked to a lot of Thais today and everybody voted for MFP

I hope it doesn't kick off. That's all I'm saying. ????
