The Criminal Court sentenced a man and a woman to 12,640 years in prison each on Wednesday, after finding them guilty of operating a Ponzi scheme.

The sentences were based on 2,528 acts of fraud committed by Wantanee Tippaveth and her boyfriend Metee Chinpa between March 9th, 2019 and October 30th, 2020.

The losses incurred by investors in the “Mae Manee” Ponzi scheme reached billions of baht and the couple were ordered to pay compensation to the people they defrauded.

Billions of bht earned ....20 years in prison....I bet many Thai would accept that renumeration.

a few years .... a bit of palm greasing ....   they'll be out.    TIT

When will be the next collective Royal Pardon? Last time 200k inmates got released, that was in 2022. It's long overdue for the next round.

Is that after they got the sentence cut in half because they confessed?

You always have to wait for this kind of footnote, usually buried somewhere in the article:

"Despite the extraordinary length of the sentences, under Thai law Wantanee and Metee will be imprisoned for a maximum of 20 years each."

In reality, it's probably going to be more like, each sentenced to 12,000+ years.... and likely will be walking free in another 6 months or so....

Unless, they're released on bail after being sentenced -- as shockingly can happen here -- and then they disappear before ever serving their sentences.

This will be overturned and I think extremely un-just.. 12,639 years would be more than enough.

Does that mean they will have to continue reincarnating in Thailand, so they can keep serving out their sentences?

Just curious about the mechanics of a 12,000 year sentence.

From the title, I thought the bankers had been finally brought to account.????

Yes, you are perfect, but I suspect some of the victims in this case were a bit mare naïve.

That'll teach 'em; they won't do that crime again.

It's based on the mechanics of more than 2500 fraud charges...just as happens in your country also.
