Flying Into Lao

Recommended Posts

A very detailed report about Savannakhet which seems most popular.

Flying?

The only direct flight from CNX to a Laos city that I could find is to Luang Phrabang (errors excepted).

Makes no sense.

All other flights will go through Bangkok.

Closest for flying would be Vientiane.

But in any case: passing the border on land is usually cheaper and for Savannakhet the only useful option.

If you want a multiple entry Non O, your only option is Savannakhet. Although there is a small airport there, the flights from Vientiane are expensive. A possible alternative way of getting there is a fly-ride ticket to Mukdahan, crossing to Savannakhet on the international bus.

If you only need a single entry Non O, Vientiane is a better option, but you need an appointment in advance to apply there.

And connecting from Chiang Mai - Bangkok - Vientiane - Savannaket is 18 hours upward.

I suspect the Savannakhet is only the most popular because Vientiane embassy has that ridiculous appointment system. I really miss my trips to Vientiane

Unfortunately, lots of other people also like Vientiane, and trying to process up to 1,000 applicants a day became impossible. With prior planning, using Vientiane is still possible.
