140 Thai women lured into prostitution in Myanmar

The Pavena Hongsakul Foundation for Children and Women revealed that the foundation is working to rescue 140 Thai women lured into prostitution in the Shan state of Myanmar. Some of the victims were forced to take drugs.

 

Several Thai people employed in the Shan state urged the foundation and relevant Thai authorities to intervene and rescue these women. Some employees expressed their dismay, stating that the income and job description they were promised differed drastically from the reality they encountered. Others shared harrowing accounts of being coerced into sex work and compelled to consume drugs against their will.

 

Ruj Thammamongkhon, the Director of the Consular Affairs Department, addressed the media, disclosing that a staggering 140 Thai women urgently require assistance and rescue.

In the immediate term, Thailand plans to collaborate with Burmese authorities to facilitate the repatriation of these women to their homeland. For a long-term solution, authorities from both nations will convene to discuss preventive measures to combat this alarming issue. Furthermore, the Thai authorities are committed to disseminating comprehensive information and warnings to residents about working abroad, aiming to mitigate the risks involved.

I got used to reading the other way around that Myanmar women were lured into Thailand, why? are the Myanmar women not sexy or good looking enough that the they to bring them from Thailand? I guess times have changed,

Come to work here in Myanmar for good salary.

You can earn 100,000 baht per month waiting tables in a restaurant.We can't find any local women to fill these positions.

You must be young, good looking and have no stretch marks.

Friend's Thai GF works there as massage therapist serving chinese tourists. Makes pretty hefty income enough to pay for house for her father back at Udon. Small house made of greyish block and no floor, however she did pay for construction.

Russian women in Pattaya have the same, come to Thailand and get good paid job.

Passport taken and then work for nothing, as mob takes money. You dont earn enough? You get beaten. Once saw a docu about that, but long time ago. Dont know if its still like that, but mob knowing it will. Did they expand to Myanmar?

Because it is easier for the traffikers and pimps to control them when in a foreign country with foreign police, language issues, harder to flee etc.

It is against the law so the pimps can oversee them easier and they have no legal rights.

 

It seems most posters on this thread seem to think it is a good thing?

Fairly sure the Thai victims were not pimping out Burmese girls.

The average wage in Myanmar is about one-third of that in Thailand. It's why many construction workers in Thailand are Burmese.

This fact should increase the scepticism of Thai workers towards any job offers there.

The Thai education system does not encourage questioning.

They are often lured under false pretences. After arrival bashed and raped day in day out paying off a debt that never goes away.

There are many legitimate jobs overseas that pay more. Are you a bar owner?

Average massage girl makes 500 baht a day without extras. If they promise 3000 baht plus that means sex of some kind. The women are stupid.

This type of thing happens in many countries. Not just Thailand.  These women take a chance out of desperation.  And yes maybe in some cases ignorance. 

And the people that condone it or think nothing of it.  They are just as low life as the people that trick these women.  With the same level at stupidity.

Amazes me how bar owners promote prostitution always on the look out for ‘staff’ although some have now gone freelance on the dating apps. Some are genuinely looking for security but in general it’s their only way of earning an income degrading themselves with some usually old fat farang for a few minutes for a few baht.

Yeah right.  And that's all she's doing, giving massages?  Like they can't find anyone in Myanmar who can do massages at "hefty" money, they have to import from Thailand?  Come on.

Stupid?  What about the Thai girls who, right in the middle of the epidemic, went to Mayanmar to work in the casino, got ill with covid, came back home by illegally crossing the border and recording it all on Facebook as evidence!  Thats stupid!

desperation???   Do you honestly think there is no "normal" work available in Thailand ?  Of course there is. 

                             Thai women are all to aware what kind of work awaits them in places like Myanmar , Korea, Dubai, Singapore etc.  Far more aware than anybody posting on here. 

It is purely greed that drives them there,   There will always be some who can't cope with the realities but for every 140 that are " begging for assistance" there will be many more who are more than happy with the arrangements

Plenty , in fact the majority of  uneducated women here, manage to eke out a modest existence without turning to prostitution, Employment is always available, that is the nature of a developing country. Construction sites, factories, are always hiring. 

Plenty of uneducated Thai men too but they don't all head to boy's town
