140 Thai women lured into prostitution in Myanmar

For years and years girls have been procured from villages in Thailand to go and work abroad for promises of good money.  Although they are told stories of good jobs many of them realise that it is actually sex work, but the lure of the money and the encouragement of their family to go plays a big part in their decision to go.  The hook is then the debt they incur for their travel, which has to be repaid many times over.

I am a little surprised to hear that the girls have been trafficked to Shan State in Myanmar though, obviously they are being taken to work near the casinos near the Chinese border which cater for Chinese gamblers.

Sad to see so many doubt girls getting trappend in deals like this, and continue to defend their bad moral, by laying the responsibility on the poor girls.

Sad statue, sad man

I don't blame the girls. I blame the families for often pushing the girls into it.  Nothing new though.  The first time I came across it was twenty five years ago  when my then girlfriends cousin was trafficked to Singapore.  The girl's mother knew exactly what was involved but sent her with the promise that money would be sent home every month.  The father was kept in the dark but eventually found out and all hell let loose!

There are some cases of luring and trafficing.  But, there are many others who are in these other countries on their own free will knowing what they are getting into.

Telling an outsider when confronted that they were ¨lured¨ or ¨forced¨ is to save face.

That's about the best post on here, whereas some others mention the word "greed" as the driver for going to work in another country, however I look at it differently: – if a supposedly genuine Thai woman offers a job overseas with good money and conditions, why wouldn't they consider it?

After all wanting a better income rather than the paltry sum they are probably getting at the moment, can in my opinion, never be construed as "greed", just looking for a better situation in life, however many of them are gullible and believe what they are told and I feel for those poor girls.

In fact I worry about a lady friend of mine whose daughter was recruited to go to Myanmar to work near the casino, and I wonder if she is amongst the poor girls who are caught in this trap. A sad situation indeed.

No doubt about it, it goes both ways, and they often recruit new ones as well. The only thing I adress, even many knows what they are doing, they really do not know if the place is a clean nice run establishment, or pure slavery and abyuse with broken deals and ending up with no return possibilities.

I believe most understand it is a dirty business even it looks clean and nice on the surface.

It doesn’t matter what country or where they work wether it be a bar in Pattaya or otherwise they get exploited. Some wise up and use their bodies attributes to their advantage though.

Fella who shall remain nameless does a lot of YouTube stuff opened a bar in Treetown Pattaya. He said there would be no girls there only staff, that didn’t last long as he had no customers. Opened another bar Soi Pothole now bragging he has 20 girls available.

That is true, as is the case with most of the bargirls working in Thailand.  My wife has two nieces who work in South Korea in a rather dubious massage parlour.  They love it and certainly seem to be earning good money.  They have managed to keep the reality of their work from their father but I suspect he knows not to ask too many questions.  The family is comfortably off and don't need any financial input, so the girls can enjoy the fruits of their labours.

But not every case is the same and there are many different reasons for each girls situation, some tragic and some simply trying to improve and enjoy their lives.   Always shades of grey and never black and white.
