Roadway tragedy: Foreign motorcyclist’s fatal collision with street sign shakes Pattaya

A tragic accident unfolded in the early hours of today, as a foreign man lost his life after colliding with a street sign while riding his motorcycle in Pattaya. The incident occurred on Pattaya Second Road within the Nongprue sub-district of Banglamung district, Chon Buri province.

The foreign man, estimated to be between 30 and 35 years old, was found lying in a pool of blood on the footpath, with no identification documents on him.

Sawang Boriboon rescuers arrived at the scene of the accident around 3am, but despite their efforts to provide medical assistance, the foreign man’s injuries were too severe, and he passed away shortly after. Pattaya Police discovered a damaged red Honda CB650R motorcycle with a Bangkok license plate nearby, along with a dislodged metal signpost close to the deceased.

An eyewitness, Wirat Wiratchalap, shared his account of the incident, stating that he saw the man driving at high speed before losing control of his motorcycle on a curve. This caused the man to veer onto the pavement and collide with the signpost, ultimately resulting in his death, the Pattaya News reported.

It seems he decided to ride a big bike with high speed. Everybody who does that is aware of the risk. Luckily he didn't kill anybody else. Case closed.

Early hours of the morning, powerful motorcycle, high speed. It all adds up doesn't it. 'And another one bites the dust'.

It used to be a regular occurrence on London's North Circular Road as well. I don't know whether it still happens there.

A total waste of a young life.....RIP.

He must have been going at quite a clip to shake Pattaya.

Now before you pile on with the "respect" admonitions, he didn't respect his own life, or potentially other road users lives, to have killed himself this way, so why should we?

No matter what happened, a stray cat dashing out, an oil spill, if he's riding too fast to control his machine, it's still his fault!

Speed limits exist for a reason.

And his flying bike could have killed you or I, had we been on the sidewalk there by a quirk of fate.

Fortunately it was in the "early hours".

The site is on front of Central Marina mall.

Maybe unrelated but:

the sign is exactly at one of the pedestrian crosswalks with lights.

Relying on one of these is pure madness.

Or a pedestrian?

Speeding inside the city is putting yourself at risk. And others too!

idiotic and irrisponsible bevahoir.  At least he did not hurt others and was fast enough not to set up a go-fund-me later.

I say this as a passionate biker who is not on the slow side of driving when outside from city limits

Yeah, using Pattaya 2nd Road as his private racing track at 3 am in the morning. Hmmm.....No big loss for the brain pool.

Big Bike, little Bike it really does not matter. Anyone who gets on a motorbike in Thailand has a death wish. Its only  a matter of time.

Some excellent journalism here:

"It is not rare to encounter road accidents in Thailand, especially motorbike accidents."

No. A lot is up to the rider.

Obviously you can't control everything. But you can anticipate crazy behavior from others.

Many of us survived for decades - sometimes without even a single little crash.

Didn't see where it said he was or was not wearing a helmet, or I missed it,

but sounds like he wasn't and that possible could have saved his life if he was wearing one.

On a bike you are only allowed to come into contact with air, there is no metal shell around you, nor passive or active restraints to keep you in place, that is both the  appeal and bane to bikers and responsible one's know the benefit of leathers, boots, gloves and most of all, a helmet.

Thanks, until your post I was presuming Jomtien second Rd for some reason as there have been a lot of incidents there. It does sound like he was speeding down Second Rd ... and had already taken the bend. A life ended too soon.

So you're saying that those millions of bike riders in Thailand, most of them to make a living, all have a death wish? Really?

3am, possibly a tad over-served and to many onions with the right hand...

Inevitable result.

A death wish is often an unconscious desire......

I'm neither shaken nor stirred.  Fortunately, he did not harm any innocent bystanders by his reckless, irresponsible, and dangerous behavior.

If you read right to the end of the report above, if you have the time, then we are told what happened by a named eye-witness. You don't even need to read the linked article. Why you are not able to understand 'An eyewitness, Wirat Wiratchalap, shared his account of the incident, stating that he saw the man driving at high speed before losing control of his motorcycle on a curve' is puzzling.

RIP fella …. Far too young

He sticks to his guns

He takes the road as it comes

It takes the shine off his shoes

He’s too fast to stop

He takes it over the top

He makes a line in the news ……..

RIP bloke...
