A group of Thai youths on Monday, June 26th, proposed 9 proposals to the Pheu Thai Party in a bid to combat drug problems across the country.

A group of young Thai people visited the Pheu Thai Party’s headquarters on Monday to submit their petition regarding the country’s raging drug issues.

Today, June 26th, is the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking or World Drug Day.

Accepting the petition on behalf of the Pheu Thai Party were Mr. Julapan Amornwiwat, an MP for Chiang Mai province, and Ms. Linthiporn Warinwatchararoj, a party-list MP and deputy secretary-general of the party.

The petitioners said they want to see Pheu Thai urgently follow their 9 proposals which roughly include:

1. Change the laws to allow the use of seized assets from drug trafficking to build educational spaces for combating drug addiction.

2. Reform the education system and curriculum both inside and outside classrooms to provide youth with up-to-date knowledge against drugs.

Dry up the mafia money by making them legal...the one and only smart thing from Anutin

Education means try to brainwash the kids telling them all drugs are evil....put all in one basket from Alcohol, Marijuana to cocaine and amphetamins. Till they don't believe anything anymore. My school invited former addicts....cool people who told the cool times when they used the narcotics and how it all ended, with no teeth, homeless etc....

Not let some middle class Karen teacher explain things.

And let everyone the free choice, that is the only way for a society....educate the people and than let them do....and when on it include industrial food+sugar as well, as it causes more harm than Marijuana.

As you say, there are a lot of other thing out there that do a lot more harm, especially to growing kids.

Education done correctly can stop kids getting onto the "wrong" path of using needless drugs just for fun.

Rehab places to help those who have gone too far with the use of drugs is a way of keeping society safer.

The other of course is tackle the mafia behind the financial side of it.

Let me add one more to it: Let the lazy and uninterested parents take their responsibility.

yes, it is a society and psychological problem...not something that can be solved with guns and prisons. And humans always used drugs, even before humans...animals love fermented fruits and get drunk like a sailor. So we must accept that a sterile drug free society is not possible (even in Saudi Arabia).

Rehab for people who want it, of course.....but the addicts that don't want to stop, give them the narcotics in the pharmacy which defunds the mafia, stops the crime around narcotics and the financing of it.

Kratom and Marijuana legislation from Anutin was surprisingly good. There should be a ban of any form of advertisement and a mandatory sticker that it might be addictive and harmful. So no one can misunderstand that allowed mean safe to use.....Or ban it, but without punishment if that is easier.

But don't ban Marijuana and start shooting people on the street again.

You would have to ban mobile phones for that...

As they do with normal cigarettes.

Policies, laws, resources which provide :

- Fully equal education opportunities, using student centred learning in schools which pushes kids to learn to anlyse and pushes them to ask questions, and pushes teachers to ensure kids know the correct answer and know why its the correct answer.

- Fully equal work opportunities, and

- Fully equal salary benefits for male and female employees.

- Salaries based on the value of the stated work outputs of each job, not based on uni degree achived by employee.

- And markedly reduces the current outrageous gap in salary and benefits by policies which limit tht gap by law,

So that a very big % of the population can achieve basic dreams like; land and house, car, can afford good education for their kids, and a fair quality of life.

WHY? So that kids don't fell lost and ignored by society, they belong to a civil society which respects them and gives them opportunity.

Why are some illicit stimulants deemed [invented] to be illegal, yet accepted are medical pharmaceuticals, which do much much more harm?

Conditioned.

Hoodwinked.

Dumbed Down.

What narrow minded nonsense. Drugs affect the whole of society. The fewer users the better off the nation. Eg Singapore.

Many things affect the society....industrial food with too much sugar more than narcotics. And from the narcotics alcohol is the worst.

Still we don't ban it. Overweight itself is bad for society, still with don't catch fat people and put them in jail. The state controlling things for the better of society we tried already in Nazi Germany and in Soviet Union.

It never worked. You must aim for the biggest freedom of the individual and protecting that freedom (against robber, murder, etc) as long as it does not reduce the freedom of someone else.

Someone who peacefully smokes at home does not damage my freedom. Someone who drive the car full with some narcotics does. So there is the line to draw.

Not: The neighbor shall not smoke Marijuana because my invisible friend said it is a sin.

The advocates of banning anything that they personally find offensive are offensive to me... should they be banned?  The problem with freedom and openness is that it requires people to be responsible for themselves which I personally believe has gone completely by the wayside... self awareness and responsibility has been replaced worldwide with the nanny state ideology.

More nonesense. Thailand doesn’t have the infrastructure to allow for decriminalizing narcotics. Fat or sugar do not lead to criminal behavior, not a good analogy. Surely you know a family that has been devastated by drug usage.

What criminal behavior is caused by Marijuana??? I know a couple of young women that have massive problems with diabetics 2 that is devastating for poor people...but not a good example as well. But they would have been better of smoking some Marijuana in a society that bans junk food. Still I would not ban it.

You don't need any infrastructure as we have seen....farmer start to plant marijuana, shops open, all pay taxes...the infrastructure builds itself in a free market and unless the drug dealer, they even pay taxes.

they should have included that liquid that causes idiots to become violent and kill... what's that called again?

Those in the photo are well over university age. Most in their 30's. So much for youth.

Yes freedom is not easy. For me it seems that freedom is now some scary bad word....The nanny state began long ago but with Covid it got much worse....

agree.....sooo bad and a drama if the only son dies or in the wheelchair.

Should be banned or at least restricted to 50cc

And when we are it....we must reduce the speed limits...at 20 km/h in the city and 50 on the highway we can reduce deaths 99%. Ban cars that can do more than 50.

And people who upgrade their vehicle get life sentence in jail as the endanger society....

Stay at home, watch netflix and be safe.

No matter how well informed there will always be those who choose to self destruct... this matter begins in the home with the parents and family which have been eroded to the point of inefficiency... aren't liberal policies liberating???

Well university lasts a bit longer for some....specially if they focus on politics

Yes but the state can't replace the parents....the broken society is a problem......schools can help a little bit but not very much.

totally agree Skip,  if the parents are proper parents and responsible parents they won't let the son out hanging around no gooders, he'd be in his room doing homework getting ready for dinner.  Sadly, Thailand lacks proper parents, very few act responsible.
