Pattaya — Pattaya City has started a project to repair and replace lights in the Central Road bypass tunnel, with one street lane inside the underpass closed.

The light installation began on Wednesday, July 12th, to replace and fix the old lights that have been in use since 2017.

The officials plan to replace the old light bulbs with about 550 LED light bulbs.

No, this is simply another regular maintenance item that has been left to deteriorate for many years. It got to a point where it was dangerous to go into the tunnel from the bright sunlight into the dark gloom.... and trying to get headlights on, sunglasses off....

Yes. It happened to me. No lights in the tunnel and driving into pitch blackness from bright sunlight. Scary. I wrote about this more than a month ago. I wonder if any accidents have occured in the tunnel since then?

Always use the right-hand lane.  That way you can (usually) stay clear of the Somchai's whose scooters' ran out of gas half way through.
