BANGKOK (NNT) - The Foreign Office of the Government Public Relations Department (PRD) hosted a study tour titled “Culinary Experience: Wisdom of Thai Gastronomy to Promote Soft Power,” in hopes of showcasing Thai cuisine and sharing knowledge about Thai cuisine with the international community.

The event was organized at the Blue Elephant Restaurant in Bangkok with numerous participants including representatives from foreign embassies, government officials, Thai and foreign media agencies, and social media influencers.

Participants had a chance to visit Samyan Market to observe how the best ingredients are selected for Thai delicacies.

At the Blue Elephant Restaurant, its founder, Chef Nooror Somany, and the Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion, Mr. Pornvit Sila-on, gave special lectures on the topics “Promotion of Thai Food Exports and How to Support Entrepreneurs Overseas” and “From the Variety of Ingredients to the International Standards of Thai Culinary Arts.”

Mr. Pornvit noted that Thai food contributes largely to the export sector, as Thai food is recognized globally due to its special flavors and top-notch ingredients. He suggested that Thai entrepreneurs catch up with future food trends by focusing more on plant-based and high-quality products.

The participants then studied Thai dishes and took part in a cooking competition. The winner received an award, as other participants were given certificates presented to them by the Deputy Permanent Secretary of Commerce, Mr. Ekachat Seetavorarat, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Information, Mr. Natapanu Nopakun, and PRD Deputy Director-General Mrs. Sudruetai Lertkasem.

The event concluded with a closing speech by Mrs. Nutthanun Rajanakorn, the Executive Director of PRD’s Foreign Office.

The Public Relations Department has been playing an active role in driving Thailand’s Soft Power policy through gastronomy, in keeping with the “Thai Kitchen to the World” campaign.
