POLICE on Koh Phangan said Saturday afternoon (Aug. 5) that a Spanish chef has confessed to the murder and dismemberment of a Colombian surgeon with most body parts packed in a suitcase and dumped into the sea but some parts that did not fit in were discarded at a garbage dump, TV Channel 7 said.

Latest reports of the investigation into this grisly crime states that Mr. Daniel (surname withheld), 29, had now confessed to killing Mr. Edwin (surname withheld), 44.

After doing so he dismembered Edwin’s body and packed the parts into his suitcase. However as all would not fit in he put some in black garbage bags and discarded them at the rubbish dump, police said, adding that he had then rented a kayak near the hotel and took the suitcase and threw it into the sea.

After his confession officials began putting together a team to search the sea near Haad Salad beach for this suitcase.

by Neill Fronde

In an update in the ongoing murder investigation, a kayak, speculated to be used by a Spanish chef to dispose of his former Colombian surgeon lover’s dismembered body parts, was discovered on Saturday off the coast of Koh Pha Ngan, stated the police.

The chef, 29 year old Daniel Sancho Bronchalo is the descendant of several prominent Spanish actors, is accused of murdering and dissecting the remains of 44 year old Edwin Arrieta Arteaga, a national of Colombia, at a local hotel this week.

Sanitation workers uncovered various body parts including a sawn-off pelvis and intestines weighing approximately 5 kilogrammes within a fertiliser sack at a waste disposal site in Moo 4 precinct of Koh Pha Ngan.

Bronchalo was escorted for questioning to the Koh Pha Ngan Police Station yesterday concerning the disappearance of Arteaga. He initially refuted all accusations, but upon further probing, the Spanish chef confessed to the murder and dissection of Arteaga at the hotel.

Bombshell details emerge in Koh Pha Ngan murder
by Neill Fronde

In Koh Pha Ngan, after 29 year old rising star Spanish chef Daniel Sancho Bronchalo brutally murdered and carved up his alleged lover, 44 year old Edwin Arrieta Arteaga, the missing top half of his body has now been recovered. Further details of the motive have been revealed but not confirmed.

The torso and head of the murdered Colombian businessman who owned a plastic surgery clinic were pulled from the north shore of the holiday party island Koh Pha Ngan within the last few hours.

Bronchalo had reportedly confessed to police that he had carved up the body and put some parts in a suitcase, and last night police identified the owners of a kayak the chef had desperately attempted to rent and then buy before using to paddle out to sea and dump the body.

A coalition of officials and locals have been following leads and scouring the shores and coastal waters before the suitcase was recovered and its grizzly contents verified.

While the crime took place on Buddha Day, just as thousands were flocking to the island for Full Moon Party, the murder took place far from the party and was wholly unrelated.

But the Spanish chef was reportedly escorted to the south of Pha Ngan to some areas overlooking the party beach earlier this afternoon when police mistakenly believed there may have been some additional evidence to collect there.

I keep wondering how he must been so hardcore using only a knife to put him into 14 pieces, I mean that big german used a chainsaw. Must have been quite some violence breaking bones off manually.

Timeline also seems to say he bought the knife, cleaning material and bags beforehand, so it was planned. Could easily have left the country and continent if he didn't go to the police and even then stayed on the island longer.

Also funny the girls selling kayak at 9PM did not suspect a thing being offered 1000 USD for a kayak worth 200 USD. And last but not least even more weird to then not dump all at sea, after all the head would be enough usually for identifying purposes, and he did put that one in sea.

As grisly as it was dumb.

He might as well have dropped the bag off at the police station instead of the dump.

Everyone here knows that their Thai garbage is picked over many times for recyclables, and anything of value by scavengers before being burned.

Well, at least he'll have the rest of his life to think about it cooking inside a sweltering Thai prison.

Everyone here knows, maybe he hasn't been here that long to know the Thai habits.

Most chefs are dumb.

What state of minds one has to be not only to murder someone he shared a bed with but to actually dismember his/her bodies and going trough the motions of discarding the body parts, Inhumane to say the least.

I would seriously like to hear from people who do not believe in the death sentence as to why this individual should be spared a bullet to the head and not waste thai taxpayers money. Maybe they need a new chef in the prison ?

I am not anti death penalty.

I just think it is too quick and puts them out of their misery and fear awaiting their unknown fate way too quickly.

This is why I like the American system which goes on and on and years of solitary confinement, not knowing, appeals, let downs and further appeals whilst all that time they have to "stew" on whatever crime they committed and relive it over and over.

They have the excruciating boredom to suffer day by day and one hour out of their cell whilst the wait for the inevitable. The mundane life and existence as well as the repetitive food day after day.

A quick bullet or lethal injection is just far too quick.

Costs too much. Lashes with horse whip then dumped far out to see.

And just like that a skilled surgeon's flourishing business and career as well as ' allegedly ' a top recognized chef and his businesses up in smoke.

The world was at their feet career wise.

Obviously more to this. The Chef has ' stewed ' over this and it is a premeditated act. The guy was definitely not thinking rationally.

All for what? Allegedly, the Chef had decided to ' marry a woman '  Nah, more to this, If that was the case then why the elaborate charade of meeting up in Thailand, pre planning and purchasing the tools to do it, switching booked rooms. etc

If it was a simple case of a relationship ending, it could have been done over the phone.

There is a very nasty, vindictive, and callous aspect to this murder leading me to think the Chef, ( and a profession known to have a  tendency to attract highly strung individuals  at the best of times), is severely unbalanced.

It costs too much in the West because of all the human rights, appeals and high salaries to keep it all going.

Not in the East, no money in the jail, then it's rice and whatever they give you with it. The Authorities here just refer you back to your Embassies, even though we know their remit is very limited when it comes to prisoners abroad.

I remember a prisoner once complaining in Chonburi prison about his rights and needing a doctor.

The response the prison officer gave was typical  and he said ' It's not my job to look after you, it's my job to keep you in here '  and that is how they view it.

A skilled chef could probably expertly dismember a human corpse with a small penknife.

(Don't ask how I know, but I'm not a skilled chef!)

Impossible.

Anyone who's ever hunted large game, or worked in a kitchen would have plenty of experience breaking-down a carcass.

It's rather easy if you have the right knife or two.

A skinner and a butcher's knife would be enough to take apart a moose.  Having a cleaver would be faster, but messier.

I'd think it'd be similar with humans as long as you don't have to stop and puke every few minutes.

But a penknife wouldn't work.
