  • An FBI veteran said his superiors suppressed investigations of Trump, Insider can exclusively reveal.
  • "Are we going to do public corruption or not?" the whistleblower told Insider.
  • He said his boss ordered him to stop investigating Giuliani and the Trump White House.

A veteran FBI counterintelligence agent says his supervisor told him to stop investigating Rudy Giuliani and to cut off contact with any sources who reported on corruption by associates of former President Donald Trump, according to a whistleblower complaint obtained by Insider.

The agent, who served 14 years as a special agent for the bureau, including a long stint in Russia-focussed counter-intelligence, claims in a 22-page statement that his bosses interfered with his work in "a highly suspicious suppression of investigations and intelligence-gathering" aimed at protecting "certain politically active figures and possibly also FBI agents" who were connected to Russian and Ukrainian oligarchs.

Those figures, the statement claims, explicitly included "anyone in the [Trump] White House and any former or current associates of President Trump."

The statement, which was prepared for staffers of the Senate Judiciary Committee, was apparently leaked and posted in mid-July to a Substack newsletter. Insider has independently obtained a copy of the complaint and verified its authenticity, but has not corroborated all of its claims.

Comey Was ‘Concerned’ NY FBI Officials Were Leaking Info to Rudy Giuliani

Former FBI Director James Comey told House investigators that he was “concerned” about FBI officials in the bureau’s New York field office leaking information about the Hillary Clinton email probe to Rudy Giuliani. “I was concerned that there appeared to be in the media a number of stories that might have been based on communications reporters or non-reporters like Rudy Giuliani were having with people in the New York field office,” Comey said, according to a transcript released Saturday. “Mr. Giuliani was making statements that appeared to be based on his knowledge of workings inside the FBI New York.” Comey said he asked for an investigation but was fired before it could be completed.

Disgraced FBI official who probed Trump-Russia ties set to plead guilty to illegally working for Russian oligarch

Disgraced FBI agent Charles McGonigal — who investigated the Trump campaign’s alleged ties to Moscow in 2016 — is slated to take a guilty plea in the case accusing him of illegally working for a Russian oligarch.

“The court has been informed that defendant Charles McGonigal may wish to enter a change of plea,” Manhattan federal Judge Jennifer Rearden wrote in a brief order filed Monday, scheduling a hearing for Aug. 15.

McGonigal, 54, — a former top FBI counterintelligence agent based in New York — was indicted in January on charges including money laundering and violating US sanctions by working for Russian billionaire and business magnate Oleg Deripaska, including trying to get him taken off of the US sanctions list.
