Parliament speaker Wan Muhammad Noor Matha has yet to decide the final date for the next round of Thailand’s prime ministerial vote pending the Thai charter court’s ruling on the ombudsmen’s petition.

 

Mr. Wan explained that he is currently awaiting the Constitutional Court’s decision on whether or not to accept the ombudsman’s petition to investigate the rejection of Pita Limjaroenrat’s re-nomination for a PM seat by 394 parliamentarians.

 

The court is scheduled to make a decision on Wednesday, August 16th.

I hope it will take a few more weeks.... At this moment it is a mess... First the ruling for the voting of the parliament for 2nd chance for Pita, than the ruling if the elections are valid indeed because of the media shares and the MP status of Pita. Because I hope that the elections are being declared invalid and new must be done. It would be much better for Thailand

Does it really matter? Pita has no chance of becoming the next Prime Minister under the present rigged system. Best he wait for the phoney senators terms to expire or a new constitution be voted on by the public. In the meantime MFP MP's should vote for one of the PTP candidates to be the next PM. Then press for a referendum on a new constitution. "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer" should apply. 

This is very bizzarre.  If you cant complete a simple voting process in a reasonable amount of time,  how can you run a country?

All very nice thoughts but you 'put the carriage before the horse.'

100% Senators are not elected (prior to the Prayut coup it was 50% elected) but chosen by a selection committee, established by the Prayut junta under junta-written constitution that was also reserved a number of Senate seats for the military. 

Current junta constitution was approved by a public referendum. Regardless, a referendum itself cannot change the constitution. 

It comes down to who has the authority to create the election committee. Previously it was the junta NCPO that controlled the House and government. So would it be now the current caretaker government in conjunction with the current House requiring a simple majority?

I've not seen any legal analysis how to overcome these constitutional barriers and wonder if PTP cares so long as it can co-op with the military/royalist.

Im still try to resolve what the exiled Royal sons are up to.  Awfully influential time to show up on Suk Street after a 25 year absence…or maybe just taken advantage of the low season prices.

The absolute wrong choice, and his continued incompetence will only make matters worse.

 

MFP also messed up by not fighting for the Speakership first.
