Pheu Thai party’s prime ministerial candidate does not need to give a vision statement during the joint sitting of parliament, scheduled on August 22nd to select the prime minister, said House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha at a press conference today (Friday).

Members of the two Houses will, he said, be allowed to engage in a debate before the selection process for about five hours, from 10am, with the senators allocated two hours and the MPs up to three.

The Pheu Thai party appears determined to nominate Srettha Thavisin, a former real estate tycoon, as its prime ministerial candidate.

Of course not... different PM candidates means different rules. They should question Settha about many things

I truly hope MFP are not there to participate in any debate or vote . PT is now in bed with the military/elites. Let them have their own debates. I vote for 151 MFP empty seats to demonstrate disdain for this entire electoral fraud and the traitorous PT by not turning up. This whole election, if you can actually call it that, is a sham of the highest level manufactured by a military junta to maintain power.

While I don't agree with the whole fiasco of getting Pita out of the way, PTP getting the reins and immediately inviting in the enemy.

If Srettha doesn't get the nod then the alternative is even worse.

The debate will go round and round for the allocated time, until some bright spark suggests calling on Prawit to act as the "compromise, stability and order" candidate for PM. Then, suddenly, the Senate will co-operate, and a framework agreement will be produced in the closing minutes.

Monday morning, the new government will be in place; remarkably it will look very much like the old government.

All the fun of a one-legged race. Except it's hard to tell which leg will get up.

And Thaksin coming back on the 22nd, at the latest. What a coincidence...

Interesting times, and (most) Thais should not expect to be better off economically for the rest of the decade.
