Phnom Penh municipal police chief Major General Chuon Narin has ordered all district traffic police officers to stop the practice of hiding and then jumping out on un-suspecting motorbike and car drivers to fine them for violating traffic laws. The above activities of the traffic police are contrary to the national police’s professionalism, he said.

There has been criticism from the public on this kind of behaviour and it affects the honour, dignity and the reputation of the national police, he added.

“To raise the honour and the dignity of traffic police and strengthen the police’s professionalism and discipline, I instruct all the 14 district’s police chiefs to instruct their officers to stop this activity because it looks very bad and affects the force’s honour and dignity,” Maj Gen Narin told a police meeting on Saturday.
