Minister cited by the Corruption Commission for ‘minor’ role in Boss Vorayuth corruption scandal

The lack of action in the ‘Boss’ Vorayuth affair undermines confidence in the Rule of Law in Thailand. This is a notorious case that has received international press coverage because of the high-profile nature of the accused and the circumstances surrounding the death of a policeman on duty in September 2012. It remains to be seen if the new government of Srettha Thavisin will take up the issue or if it will continue to be ignored.

Amid a huge scandal and corruption case brewing over the operations of the Royal Thai Police in Nakhon Pathom, last week, the Prime Minister’s Office was also reminded of the ongoing controversy over the failure to arrest and prosecute the heir to the Red Bull fortune, a long-running sore which has significantly undermined confidence among the Thai public in the rule of law within the Kingdom. The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), last week, sent a report implicating the newly appointed Minister of Education, Police General Permpoon Chidchob, for a ‘minor’ role in the controversy from his time as a senior policeman during the affair. It has also come to light that Mr Vorayuth Yoovidhya or ‘Boss’ is currently not featured on the Interpol Red Notice list of fugitives wanted by authorities in Thailand despite being placed on it by the Royal Thai Police in October 2020.

On Wednesday, the Secretary General of the National Anti-Corruption Commission, Mr Niwatchai Kasemmongkol revealed that a file had been sent to Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin concerning individuals examined by the Commission when dealing with the controversy over the Red Bull scion Vorayuth Yoovidhya or ‘Boss’, who fled Thailand in 2017 ahead of criminal charges and continues to evade arrest and prosecution for the killing of 47-year-old Police Sergeant Wichian Klanprasert on the Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok in the early hours of September 3rd, 2012.

Where is the rat bastard? What I think is really weak is that NO Thai newspaper has the gonads to do some investigative journalism on this murderer and uncover where he lives and what he's doing. Shouldn't be that hard to track him down.

We only needed to be told twice. We’re not as dumb as we think.

When people become high-ranking government or church officials they receive by virtue of their jobs certain honorifics, such as: His/Her Excellency, Honorable, Right Honorable, His Eminence, Very Reverend etc., something to distinguish them from the plebs and it makes them so exalted.

I propose that when these people have been exposed of corruption/misdeeds and they still continue in their jobs, their monikers should change to reflect that: The Filthy, The Extremely Filthy, The Stink-To-High-Heaven, His/Her Foulness etc, again only to distinguish them from the regular folk.

An international bounty hunter and 200,000 quid would have settled this charade years ago.

Agree.  I have zero doubt that given an incentive that there are many many operatives that could capture red bull in less than a month and deliver him to Thai custody.  From what i have seen it would not take Sherlock Holmes to track him down.....assuming that any Thai politicians or judicial heads actually wanted to bring him to justice.  I guess being high on coke, speeding, and killing a cop then fleeing the country is not on their list of serious crimes, or perhaps they can't be bothered as they are planning visits to their new London flats and french villas.

A dirty cop is a dirty cop.

Any role which a very Senior Police plays in wrong-doing is NOT minor. It is criminal.

Having such a person now in charge of the education system is a MAJOR crime against the nation and people.

If he had a gram of integrity (left) he would resign, in shame.

You can follow him on Fakebook.

He was seen at some of the F1 races in the Red Bull pits and in the hospitality area.

Support Red Bull if you have no conscience.

There has never been any evidence that he was on the Red Notice list.

Just 'suspect' policemen saying that he was on the list.

Is it as minor as holding some shares in a defunct media company?  This latter sin prevented the will of the voters in a couple of the last elections.

Yes he was , but very briefly!????

"Interpol issued an international wanted notice against him, but it no longer appears on the site. Vorayuth’s whereabouts are officially unknown. "

He must have done some good work in the "Boss" case.  When you're cited, it usually means you are singled out for commendation.

Where's his citation for aiding and abetting?

What 'Rule of Law'? After 20+ years the police can't even be bothered to enforce no smoking laws.

Why bring this subject up on the Red Bull Hierarchy case ( Boss )

Its Who you know and money talks in Thailand

Boss will never be held to account for his crime

He is well protected by people in power  end of story

"Boss currently not listed on the Interpol Red Notice list of wanted people by Thai authorities published on the international police agency’s website"

Interpol has clarified this so many times already, just because his name is not shown on the small proportion of Red Notices available for public viewing does not mean that he is not on the list...the fact is that most of the list is not publicly available.  Police forces do not get their "wanted" information from a public website.

Wouldn't it be great if posters made rational comments?  Vorayuth cannot be made to "serve" time served as he has not even appeared in court, never mind been found guilty of anything yet, he has no sentence hanging over him yet.

"Rule of Law in Thailand," what a joke. Thailand is one of the most corrupt countries in the world.

He is not "a murderer", there are no murder charges against him, only traffic offences.  But if he was located by these investigative journalists (who have no powers) what do "they" do about him, or with him, presuming that he is not in Thailand?   RTP have no powers of arrest anywhere except Thailand.

Yes.  Confirmed by Interpol several times and seen on the public area of the site for a period.

Unfortunately, those "international bounty hunters" only exist in your imagination and movies, not real life.
