Crime CIB Welcomes Spanish National Police Delegation for Counterterrorism Knowledge Exchange

The visit, aimed at fostering international cooperation and enhancing investigative capabilities, was marked by a formal reception headed by Pol Maj Gen Thakoon Nimsombun, Deputy Commissioner of the CIB. The Spanish delegation’s primary purpose was to share expertise and experiences surrounding the I3 database management system, a crucial tool in Spain’s law enforcement infrastructure known for its effectiveness in tackling organised crime and terrorism. The CIB expressed strong interest in the Spanish system and intends to integrate the insights gained from this exchange into its own operational development. The collaboration underscores Thailand’s commitment to improving its investigative tools through international partnerships. Police clamped down on a staggering haul of 8.7 million methamphetamine pills and 720 kilogrammes of crystal meth (Ice) hidden in a Bang Sai house. This follows a bust in March that put police on the trail of a suspected drug racket. Pol. Gen. Prachuap Wongsuk, deputy national police chief, confirmed this coup was thanks to ongoing probes, after nabbing a trailer truck with illicit cargo in Nakhon Sawan, en route to Ayutthaya. He faces charges of selling Category One narcotics, having previously used drug money for personal expenditures. This ongoing operation has seen the law enforcement tightening their grip on Thailand's drug plight. PM Shinawatra lent her support to the police force, highlighting the significance of tackling the drug epidemic in the nation. Her presence underscores the severity of the issue and commends the efforts made by law enforcement. In 2025 alone, authorities have cracked 7,961 drug cases, collared 8,100 suspects, and confiscated staggering amounts of meth pills, Ice, Ketamine, and assets worth 389 million baht. The persistent efforts by police, supported by the highest levels of government, reflect a dedicated campaign against drug crime in Thailand. With significant quantities of narcotics removed from the streets, the focus remains steadfast on eradicating the drug threat. Such operations stress the critical nature of collaboration between law enforcement and government to protect society from these dangerous substances. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. An incident has shaken the Lamphun community after a rescue vehicle, ran a red light and fatally struck a motorcyclist. The crash, which occurred at the Doi Ti intersection on the Lampang–Chiang Mai road late on 6 May, resulted in the deaths of two people and left a young girl motherless. Police from the Muang Ji station received reports of a multi-vehicle collision involving a rescue vehicle and several motorcycles. Emergency responders from the Sawang Nakhon Lamphun Rescue Association, along with partner rescue networks and paramedics from Prince Lamphun Hospital, rushed to the scene. Initial investigations revealed that motorcycles had been moving through the intersection under a green light when the rescue vehicle allegedly ran the red light with its siren blaring, despite not transporting any patient. Four people were injured at the scene, and CPR was performed on a woman at the site before all casualties were transported to nearby hospitals. Sadly, 45-year-old Kamonrat, a local office worker in an industrial estate, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. She had just finished work and was on her way home to Nam Phu village in Pa Sak subdistrict when the crash occurred. Kanyapak, the victim’s sister from Chiang Rai, stated that Kamonrat had been riding home at around 20:30 when the rescue vehicle collided with her at high speed. Witnesses confirm the vehicle ran the red light with its siren active. Several others were injured in the incident and an unidentified man also later died at hospital from his injuries. Kamon, Kamonrat’s husband, spoke tearfully about his routine of waiting on his motorbike each night to escort his wife down the dimly lit road to their home. After waiting in vain and repeatedly calling her phone with no answer, he received the devastating news. The couple’s seven-year-old daughter is now left without her mother. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, with public criticism mounting over the misuse of rescue sirens and the apparent negligence leading to loss of innocent lives.
