Six people were killed, six were injured, 15,549 houses were inundated and 22,713 hectares of paddy fields were flooded from January till September. Flood waters laid to waste 4,000 hectares of the paddy fields. National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM) spokesman Soth Kim Kolmony said yesterday that from January to September 25, 19 provinces and Phnom Penh were affected by floods.

 

He said provinces hit by floods were Pursat, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Preah Vihear, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, Kratie, Stung Treng, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Kandal, Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Speu, Takeo, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Koh Kong, Kep, and Oddar Meanchey. According to Kolmony, the floods this year affected 29,489 families living in 15,549 houses and 2,029 families were moved to safe grounds.

 

Some 106 houses, he added, were destroyed. “This year’s floods also inundated 1,297 hectares of mixed crops and 22,713 hectares of paddy fields. Some 4,000 hectares of the paddy fields were destroyed. Six cattle were killed and 6,878 cattle had to be relocated because of the floods, he said.

Now the POSSIBILITY: Just because you have a VISA - doesn't matter WHAT kind, you CAN be REFUSED entry into Thailand by a Immigration Officer based on 1) Your history on the computer OR 2) any reason thought of by the IO. It happened to a friend of mine who was really WORKING the system for 2+ years in every possible way. He got bounced ( see next paragraph ) on his appeal. If this happens, tell the IO you want a IMMEDIATE APPEAL to your entry refusal, a process unknown to most people. Good Luck.

      Tourist’s Body Found Washed Ashore at Wong Amat Beach, Pattaya

      Pattaya rescue officials from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation received a report at approximately 07.50 on November 22, from a concerned citizen about a body floating near Wong Amat Beach. The deceased, believed to be a foreigner, had washed ashore. The Pattaya City Police Station was promptly informed, and officers were dispatched to the scene. The incident occurred near Wong Amat Tower, within Soi Pattaya-Naklua 16, Moo 5, Naklua Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District. Upon arrival, officials found locals gathered near the body, which was floating face-up close to the shoreline. Rescue teams cordoned off the area and retrieved the body from the water. The deceased was identified as a foreign male, estimated to be between 40 and 50 years old, approximately 170–180 cm tall. He was shirtless, wearing black trousers, and had a short haircut. Initial assessments suggest the man had been dead for no more than eight hours. Upon inspecting the body, authorities discovered an iPhone 5 in the pocket of his trousers, a gold watch on his left wrist, a gold necklace, and a gold ring on his left ring finger. However, no identification documents were found to confirm his nationality. Mrs. Preaw Pinyoying, an 83-year-old local resident, recounted a passerby fishing in the area had informed her of the floating body, about 30 metres from the shore. The waves appeared to be pushing it towards the beach. The fisherman asked Mrs. Preaw to immediately notify police and rescue officials. Police speculate that the man may have been walking in the early morning when a pre-existing medical condition caused his sudden death. No signs of foul play were detected, although minor scrapes on the body, likely caused by rocks in the water, were observed. As the area is relatively quiet during the early morning, there were no witnesses to confirm when or how the man entered the water. The body has been transported to Bang Lamung Hospital, where it will be kept pending identification and contact with the deceased’s family for religious rites. Investigation into the case continues.       RIP to those poor people. Vang Vieng has become a version of Koh Phangnan / Koh Tao / Khaosan Road all rolled into one. Sadly, rich people in Laos also have the same level of immunity as their Thai counterparts. Perhaps more so because many of them have got rich through tight links with certain ministers / Politburo members, rather than through general biz.
