Airport baggage inspector suspended after animals allowed on flight

An employee of a private security company has been suspended from duty by Suvarnabhumi airport management after he failed to check the baggage of two foreign passengers, which was later found to contain two small-clawed otters (Aonyx cinereus), according to the airport’s public relations office.

The animals escaped from carry-on baggage, causing a commotion on the Thai Vietjet flight, which left Bangkok for Taiwan on Wednesday afternoon.

An official manning the X-ray machine found something suspicious in the baggage, which could have been a prohibitedobject, and alerted his colleague to do a manual examinationof the bag. The baggage was not, however, opened and was allowed to be carried on board the flight by two passengers.

They sell for $USD 5-7k in America

Probably illegal to keep in Taiwan if the smugglers did not take the time to secure an import permit.

Or maybe they are cheapskates who did not want to pay for proper transport costs

Doubt ThaiVietjet allows "rats" in the passenger cabin

The baggage inspector stated that it wasn't his fault, as the official manning the X-ray machine did not say "please".

Suspended? Pretty hard to get fired in this country

Otters are a protected species in Thailand . Stuffing 2 baby otters that need water to survive , into a suitcase , is torture of animals , what is rightfully also forbidden in Thailand .

Heavy fine or prison .

Airport in Taiwan has a lot of sniffer dogs. There was a very high chance they would have caught the smuggler exiting. I read the smuggler was fined heavily in Taiwan.

They should make the punishment fit the crime.

Gross negligence.

Why do some people do stuff like this to poor animals..

What's wrong with them?  Just get a kitten or puppy.
