The legendary Carabao rock band, which has been entertaining Thai fans with its hugely popular songs for more than four decades, has decided to disband next March, with their last concert scheduled on April 1st next year, according to Yuenyong Opakul, aka “Add Carabao”, the band’s leader and lead singer.

“It is about time for us to let go and accept the truth that all of us are old, although we are still cool,” said Yuenyong, adding that, if anyone in the band wants to join other bands, they can do so.

He said he will continue to compose and produce songs for fans, with the help of his nephews “which will help me sleep well and in happiness, not for the sake of money.”

  • He's a very generous guy. When me and a mate saw them in Khon Kaen, my mate asked if he'd like to donate to Khon Kaen Cricket club, which was foreigners and local kids. He gave 10,000 baht.

Good on them. Excellent band. Alot of Thais love them. Very cool how alot of the younger people here love the classic bands. Not the same in the West. A very small percentage there like the older music.

OFF TOPIC. Please do not mention CARABAO, the only Cup which Man City did not win last season.   5555

Thanks goodness, a fake phua cheewit, songs for life band if ever there was one. Started off well but then played the same style for the next 40 years. Almost no real protest songs or material about social injustice. Ad was a yellow shirt and an admirer of Prayuth. Posing as working class for the image while being a multi millionaire has always looked incongruous. Saw him once that was enough, not that he's all bad, very generous donations to singer musician charities and then there is the football, he never gets played in our house though.

Surely if their last concert is on April 1st they're disbanding in April not March.

True. First saw them in a demonstration concert in Sanam Luang, 1992.

Might watch in Pranburi  this month.

Lung Kee Mao one of my favourite all time songs.

Last chance for a punch up, his concerts are notorious for fights. He got cancelled at our local Wat, not worth the trouble from rival hooligans.

Depends on how you see it. It's like a normal person donating 20 Baht ????

Wait. The band is going to "disband"? Funny!

like so much this song

Love this song  Banned from the radio back in 1992, if I remember right, because the lyrics demand the PM must come from an election ( hello General Suchinda), they subtly changed the Thai wording of PM , Nai Yok นาย ยก to Nai Kor นายกอ by removing the second ย

Everyone knew the fictitious word, Nai Kor, meant the PM

When I was stationed in the Phillipines, 1977-79, they were pretty popular there.  I don't know when they moved to Thailand.

Water Buffalo more specifically.  Which is Carabao in Tagalog.  In Thai they would be Kwai.  Which is also sort of a swear word here.

That's for sure. Several years ago my wife and I were at one of their concerts in a nearby village when one of her friends came running over and said that I should leave right now as a few of the locals were planning to beat up the farang in the audience. I made a hasty retreat and got home unscathed.
