Pheu Thai Digital Wallet Project Merely Copycatting Japan: MP

THE PHEU THAI DIGITAL WALLET project is merely a copycat of Japan’s shopping coupon programme allegedly implemented to no avail over the last couple of decades, said Move Forward MP Sirikanya Tansakul Saturday (Oct.21).

The Pheu Thai under de facto party boss Thaksin Shinawatra has publicly vowed to carry out their version of Japan’s shopping coupon programme implemented in 1999 despite the fact that it completely fizzled out in that country, according to Sirikanya’s latest post on her Facebook page.

The Japanese populist campaign under which a total of 31 million shopping coupons worth 20,000 yen each had been distributed to each child and elderly person had reportedly failed to encourage the people to increase spending out of their own pocket apart from the use of the handout coupons to buy goods and services within a six-month period, according to the Move Forward MP.

In Japan they had coupons which would be much better as I wrote several times... On the other hand Thailand is the land of copy and greed and the digital wallet system will surely benefit some people who are involved in organizing and implementing

Macao had done this multiple time,  Macao had done same,  so were Japan and Singapore.

Now it is Thailand.

It doesn't replace household funds but supplements/-subsidizes household spending. If concerned a household doesn't need it, put an expiration date on its use.

Wouldn't it be notable that a household targeted for the subsidy doesn't need it? Might then re-examine who it targets.

Thailand’s “digital wallet” scheme not copy of 1999 Japanese model

Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat has dismissed a suggestion that the Pheu Thai party’s digital wallet scheme is a copy of the Japanese model, introduced in 1999, which was in the form of coupons.

His denial was in response to an observation made by Sirikanya Tansakul, a party-list MP and deputy leader of the opposition Move Forward party last Friday. She claimed that the digital wallet scheme is similar to the Japanese model, introduced to stimulate the economy through the distribution of coupons for the purchase of consumer products.

Sirikanya also claimed that research, conducted ten years after the launch of the scheme, shows that it succeeded in encouraging Japanese consumers to increase spending by 20% and that the scheme had no effect on non-durable goods, such as food, drinks and fuel oil.

So why pour cold water over it even if it's a copy....you should have much better things to do...

Where were you during Prayuth's reign....sound like sour grapes...

Effing smokescreen, give the Thai people proper family allowances and finance it through a wealth tax.

"No, not copy! We invent our own messes! And when it goes wrong, we run to Cambodia...(which has never been done before either)."
