Government urged to boost domestic tourism as war in middle-east hits arrivals

The government is being advised to roll out stimulus packages to boost domestic tourism, to encourage more Thais to travel within the country, to offset the potential drop off in tourist arrivals during the last quarter of this year, due to external factors such as the war in Ukraine and the war between Israel and Hamas.

Chamnan Srisawat, president of the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT), said that the prospect of an all-out war between Israel and Hamas will affect the global economy and the Thai tourism business, as tourists will cancel or postpone their visits because they feel unsafe.

To offset this, he suggested the government comes up with stimulus packages to encourage Thai people to travel more, and not just to major tourist destinations, like Phuket or Chiang Mai, as there are other provinces which are worth visiting.

Stimulus packages are just a short term veneer covering an underlying problem.

Sort out the domestic economy, put money in peoples pockets and they will travel.

This is rubbish. They've been going on about Russian tourists coming since Russia invaded Ukraine.

ps. Bring back reactions to our posts not just the number of posts a person has made.

Advise the government to make some sacrifices and improvements. Wanting something is alot different than earning something.

Malaysians; Thais can always rely on them. (Actually, when I lived in the South, I knew a mixed-race Thai girl, who claimed that her ex-boyfriend arranged a gang-rape of her, but she escaped, and went to the cops, who, supposedly said: "We can't touch those joining this, as they are Malaysians." - Can't vouch whether the story is true, but knowing the girl, perhaps.)

My wife came back from Bangkok last night around 9 pm at Phuket airport, she said it was quiet and the taxi driver also said it's been quiet not like last year,

No, those are the only groups that frequent Thailand.  Like the Russians, the rest should all be granted 90 day visa exempt/on arrival.  (sarcasm intended)
