webfact
On November 5, 2023, at 15:30, a violent clash involving foreigners erupted in front of Sothon Nimit Temple during the Kathin religious festival in Samut Prakan province. Police and emergency volunteers rushed to the chaotic scene where locals and foreigners had gathered in large numbers to celebrate. In the temple's parking lot, the situation was tense with people shouting and being separated by the police. One individual was injured by glass bottle shards and experienced pain in his right foot and arm, opting out of hospital care despite the injuries, reported Siam Rath. Picture: Siam Rath The vicinity was strewn with broken glass and explosive remnants, including what appeared to be homemade ping-pong bombs, leaving two more locals with minor injuries. Amid the festivities, a Thai man trying to defuse the fight was hit by a bottle, causing his arm to go numb. A foreign participant recounted dodging thrown objects, including bottles, rocks, wood, and explosives. Subsequently, injured parties sought the assailants who had thrown the projectiles. Authorities are now gathering more information from the injured and scrutinizing CCTV to apprehend and legally charge the involved foreign and local individuals. goldenbrwn1
I live in Samut Prakan , there is a big Burmese community there with their own shops, restaurants etc . Probably it’s them that are being referred to as the “foreigners”..?? Edited November 6, 2023 by goldenbrwn1
