Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin says he has never talked about inviting Chinese police to come to Thailand to join their Thai counterparts on patrols in tourist destinations, to boost the confidence of Chinese tourists about their safety in the kingdom.

In an interview from San Francisco in the United States, where he was attending the APEC conference on Monday evening local time, the prime minister said it was a miscommunication on the part of the governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Thapanee Kiatphaibool.

The TAT governor told the Thai media that the prime minister floated the idea of the presence of Chinese police in tourist provinces popular with Chinese visitors.

Woohoo!
They walked that back fast.  A 'misunderstanding', which in Thai political speech, serves the same purpose as “brakes failed” does for a auto smash up.

Sure he didn´t

He should be asking for the TAT Governors resignation for floating this information to the media without his approval, thus showing that he is in charge. Anything else just makes him look like a weak leader who is flip-flopping or coming up with excuses.

Why not have Volunteer police that speak Chinese.

Special Constable Hoo Werd could be pounding the beat.

Test balloon goes up, test balloon comes down.

Will Thailand be the next Hong Kong?

Those "miscommunications" sure do seem to happen a lot. :coffee1:

Yes, but in Thailand it appears to be quite common!

Preposterous idea!  I mean how would they share the envelopes really?

If Lurch and his Govt cannot communicate such a simple thing as this correctly, how are they going to communicate to Investors that Thailand is the place to be

She said he said.

Great boss, throwing his Minister under the bus.

What a bunch of incompetent fools.

Chinese police are great.

As part of a Beijing HASH run, us motley mob ended up outside  the Forbidden City and had a circle formed with the usual beer drinking and some dressed in Tutu's. Then Tiamin Square had a problem with groups. The Chinese police politely said we would be arrested if we "ran" into the Forbidden City.

All very nice. They let us carry on a bit, then we left.

All very nice and friendly.

All a misunderstanding he meant the KGB 🤔

Honest mistakes, overtaken by honest misunderstandings ...... what a face losing farçe!

His image is not helped by video clips such as one shown on Channel 3 news last evening.

He was shown being interviewed inside the plane flying him to the USA. Looking relaxed and not wearing a jacket a sign on a bulkhed directly over his right shoulder read:

'LAVATORY FOR ECONOMY PASSENGERS TO THE REAR' 😀

As bobthegimp said:- "Will Thailand be the next Hong Kong? "

But Bob, wait there's  more:-  The Solomon Islands P.M. has welcomed Chinese Police there, and supplying their arms to the local police, to quell any political backlash about all the Chinese infrastructure happening, including Naval.

Thaland (for the present) seems to have nipped in the bud what the beautiful ordinary Solomon Islanders couldnt.

How about the silent 'invasion" of other Pacific countries.

How about the dubious huge Naval vessell deal between China and Thailand?

How about the chinese Navy literally pushing Phillipine fishing boats away?

Watch this space people the worst is yet to come

The pantomime of kangaroo politics. In other news, Chinese police have been invited to 'police' Sihanoukville.

It is quite common: an idea comes up, not a moment of reconsidering the pro s and cons made public wait untill somebody thinks it over and then it goes: miscommunication. Same with tax ideas, 1 Rai land for foreigners etc etc

A mis communication and not a mis understanding that's a first.

Or perhaps it was a mis take..

Order, counter order - dis-order.  Well done Thai Politicians.

What actually happened:

PM: "I was trying to bend over to the CCP and ready to pull my pants down... but the backlash from Thais made me pull up my pants"
