A tragic incident unfolded in Nakhon Chai Si, Nakhon Pathom, when a disturbed police corporal shot his 71 year old father while he slept, before taking his mother and wife hostage. As the situation escalated, local law enforcement officials and negotiation teams rushed to the scene to intervene.

At 4am today, police received a distress call about a 31 year old man, identified as Corporal Wanchalerm of Nakhon Chai Si Police Station, who had shot his father dead and was holding family members captive in their home. Arriving at the scene, police found a tense situation with Wanchalerm, who was visibly distressed, still inside the house, armed and with his mother and wife inside with him.

After a tense standoff that lasted over half an hour, police were able to safely evacuate the other occupants from the house. The body of the deceased, 71 year old Salee, was found in his bedroom with a gunshot wound to the head. The weapon used in the crime, a firearm of unknown calibre, was not immediately found, reported KhaoSod.

According to Wanchalerm’s girlfriend, who was in the house at the time of the incident, she heard a gunshot and then saw Wanchalerm with a gun, walking into the bedroom. Subsequently, Wanchalerm’s mother found Salee dead, shot by her son. The family, shocked and frightened, stayed inside the house until the police arrived.

It is rather shocking the number of bizarre and  murderous incidents that happen which are perpetrated by active and retired police officers. It really does make you question the entire institution, and why it is so rotten, had you not been questioning them already.

The RTP. What can one say?
