Caldera Posted November 29, 2023 Posted November 29, 2023 What a ridiculous exercise. Instead of "explaining" that the movie "wrongly portrays" Thailand, they should just stop digging. Firstly, while other countries in the region are worse, there is a lot of human trafficking going on in Thailand, and they won't convince the Chinese that it isn't so. Secondly and arguably more importantly, the state of the economy in China and the Chinese policy to promote domestic tourism keep a lot more Chinese tourists away from Thailand than that scary movie. 1 1

Tourists are forgetting Thailand. Thailand needs foreigners 100x more than they need Thailand. I have met numerous tourists, and have friends and acquaintances from the UK, not stopping for more than 1 night in Bangkok, on their way to/from Vietnam as their main destination of choice. Thailand needs to do more to attract travellers/tourists by making it easier and more welcoming to visitors. 1
RandiRona Posted November 29, 2023 Posted November 29, 2023 Thai politicians are deflecting this to a movie rather than their own policies. When you crackdown against Chinese, Extortion from a Taiwanese actress, random document and pee pee check, calling Chinese cops to patrol, who in right state of mind would like to visit a place for a peace of mind? Good for them that Indian and Malaysia due to lack of cheap options still visiting the place. Its unfortunate but 40 million is a pipe dream. 1

They also need to address the multitude of problems plaguing the nation long before covid come along. Will they? Likely not, as introspection, and taking responsibility is not their strong suit. 2 1
UbonEagle Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 What a joke the Chinese are likely one of the most involved groups in all the illegal activities mentioned, esp call centre scams

I have. Of course the scammers were Chinese. Nothing in the movie portrayed other races as the scammers. Was Thailand mentioned in the movie? No. But if you have watched the movie, you too would most likely conclude that the abduction happened in Bangkok. Where was the location of the scam operation? No country was mentioned. But most would conclude that it was somewhere in Myanmar. Is the threat of being abducted in Thailand real? Selatan Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 Not difficult to search for the movie for viewing online. It has English subtitles. Can learn something from the movie. 1
