Yesterday I went and got measured up for them (eye check etc). all the forms were filled out, a last check to how they sit. "How much will this be" "37,880 Baht they've been reduced 30%" "What!! You told me they had been reduced by 50% and would cost 10,000 Baht" I received wide eyes and a beautiful smile as an answer. I recently was recommended to try Diamond eyes. What a complete difference. Titanium frames with bi focals, non scratch. Price 8500. Plus one year warranty on any defect on lens,( including scratches) and frames. Complete with members card with prescription embossed upon it. Top Charoen equivalent 27000 baht+ In addition: my wife needed specs and chose progressive lenses with scratch resistant. Top C ...price 33500 baht. Diamond eyes 13000. A long time ago I was in there looking for some glasses. Their opening price was about 10,000. I smiled and put them back. They quickly said they were having a promotion and would take off 20%. I smiled and declined saying still over my budget. Someone emerged from the back and said todays special and they would take off 50% I headed for the door. As I stepped outside they called after me hopefully ' ok ok....2500 baht sir. I got a similar pair elsewhere for 1700. swm59nj Posted November 30, 2023 Share Posted November 30, 2023 It sounds like the frames were chosen first. Then a few days later the eye exam was done. The frames alone could have been 10000 baht. Some frames can be expensive. Then the remaining cost of the total was for the lenses. Depending on the quality and type of lenses the cost could be high. And bifocal lenses are more expensive than regular lenses. I did buy them, while telling them that their price paying only 25% of the sticker price, is the regular price in my country. Just the way it is. And your optical glasses would cost about half of what you paid in any other country, with a 2 year full no-question asked insurance. That was my fault, 10,000 referred to the frame only, they can't possibly offer a quote for bifocals without an eye inspection, which was very thorough. my present glasses (which I bought from them over 10 years ago for 22K) were also measured to check for eye sight depreciation. My present glasses are still usable but micro scratches, possibly through dust collisions when riding a motor bike make distant objects slightly fuzzy, I can see a person 200 meters away but can't say who it is, so I can still use them for outside work or bike riding to spare the new ones. 2 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Actually I'm not so sure about that now having asked around quite a bit. obviously the frames are a fashion thing and vastly overpriced, also glass lenses are no longer glass but plastic but you get what you pay for, behind the lens industry is a vast network of digital machines and programmers and this industry sets the price to make a large profit, the outlets also need profit and are labour intensive, some outlets will be cheaper than others but the base costs will be similar. I have had my last pair from them for 10 years and I haven't been kind to them regarding usage but they are still serviceable.
