Protest leaders against Yingluck government get suspended prison sentences

Five core members of the now defunct People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), a political pressure group which engineered the mass protests against the government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra in 2013-14 were, given suspended prison terms by the Criminal Court today.

Authorities Warn Against Forging Certificates of Origin

NONTHABURI, Dec 1 (TNA) – The Department of Foreign Trade warns that forging certificates of origin for goods and using them to claim special tax privileges in the destination country is not only illegal but also leads to intensified inspections of Thai exports.

‘Songkran’ receives official UNESCO recognition

Songkran, Thailand’s New Year holiday, is being given formal UNESCO recognition as a world intangible cultural heritage. Nation Thailand reports that the holiday will be formally recognised by UNESCO at an event in Botswana, Southern Africa, on December 6.

Thai Commerce Ministry plans new year mega sale

The Thai Commerce Ministry has unveiled plans for a new year mega sale, an extensive retail event, to alleviate living costs for the local population. The sale, which is being presented as a new year’s gift to the citizens, is set to take place at Muang Thong Thani from December 20 to December 24.

Patong Hill road reopens, paving the way for smooth travels

Vehicles are once again smoothly navigating the stretch of road over Patong Hill in Phuket, following the successful completion of repair works. The vital link, which was previously marred by subsidence beneath the road surface, is now fully operational with both lanes leading to Patong open for traffic.

A Thai man reportedly punched his neighbour to death on the side of the road in the northern province of Lampang after a dispute over dog waste. The killer claimed he acted in self-defence.
