Protest leaders against Yingluck government get suspended prison sentences

Five core members of the now defunct People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), a political pressure group which engineered the mass protests against the government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra in 2013-14 were, given suspended prison terms by the Criminal Court today.

Thailand Climbs Digital Competitiveness Rankings

‘Songkran’ receives official UNESCO recognition

Songkran, Thailand’s New Year holiday, is being given formal UNESCO recognition as a world intangible cultural heritage. Nation Thailand reports that the holiday will be formally recognised by UNESCO at an event in Botswana, Southern Africa, on December 6.

Thai Commerce Ministry plans new year mega sale

The Thai Commerce Ministry has unveiled plans for a new year mega sale, an extensive retail event, to alleviate living costs for the local population. The sale, which is being presented as a new year’s gift to the citizens, is set to take place at Muang Thong Thani from December 20 to December 24.
