Hello all,

The title basically says it all.  Does anyone have any recommendations for a dermatologist in Bangkok?  I need to have a spot examined for potential skin cancer.  Anybody with a good experience please advise.

Thanks ahead of time

Experience with skin cancers is extremely limited in Thailand. Thsi applies to both dermatologists and pathologists (who interpret the biopsies)

Best advice I can give for Bangkok is to go to the government derm institute

https://www.iod.go.th/en/

But retain a healthy degree of scepticism and if the lesion does nto resolve consider seeking care in your home country

Wow, not really the answer I expected,  but thank you for the information.  I live up in Phetchabun and no one up there seemed to have a good idea.

Sheryl, I think I have read over the years that you are in Chiang Mai.  While doing and internet search before posting my question I found a link to Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai advertising a "medical dermatology clinic."  It mentions checking for skin cancer.  Have you any information about Chiang Mai?

BTW, I have appreciated your grounded advice about medical topics over the years.  This is the first time I have chimed in to a discussion with you.  Keep up the good work and thanks.

If you live in Phetchabun city try the private hosptal Phetcharat,  they are supposed to have a skin specialist there.

I live in the south of the province and use another private hospital, Mittraparp Memorial Hospital in Saraburi.

In 2020 I had a basil cell carcinoma removed, six visits to their skin department,  initial consultation, biopsy, operation, stitches removed final check etc.  The costs around 37K Baht in all.

The specialist holds the clinics in the evening as he comes up from Bangkok.  As some were late nights wifey and I would stay in el cheapo hotel and drive back next day.

Thanks, I know that hospital and have used them for other things in the past.  I will check there.  I did ask a local dermatologist,  but not at the hospital,  she advised me to go to Bangkok.  I made the assumption she would know about other options in the area.  I will stop by on my way home and ask about the skin clinic.

Thanks

I am nowhere near Chiang Mai and in any event, no place I can recommend for this there. Khon Kaen would be a better option.  This doctor there (US trained) http://www.khonkaenram.com/en/doctors/2

He can also be seen at Srinagarinbd (KKU Hospital)

Otherwise, come to the govt Derm institute in Bangkok as previously advised, unless doing this back in your country is an option.

I was diagnosed with stage 2 malignant melanoma in May, and with melanoma in situ in September. My 12 yr old son was also diagnosed with it on his ear at the same time as my second diagnosis. Send me a private message and we'll talk over line/whatsapp.

I used Dr Punyaphat from Samitivej Sukhumvit. I highly recommend being insistent on having anything suspicious removed and biopsied.

I have lived in Pattaya Bangkok and Chiangmai and seen 10 dermatologists. I normally get sprayed on about 40 plus pre cancer spots with liquid nitrogen. Yesterday I got sprayed on 25 spots smaller than normal because over 14 years of regular treatment my skin has improved. I go back next week for a small facial incision. Two years ago I had a cancer operation with skin graft in Pattaya. This year I had melanoma cancer operation in Bangkok. I have seen Dr Wachiraporn of Chiangmai Ram for 13 years and for me she is Number One with regards to professionalism and cost. She trained in Thailand and USA.

I've been using Dr. Anna Jaruwan at Bangkok Hospital in Pattaya for around 15 years and she's excellent. Unfortunately, her clinic here is only for one day a week now, but I assume she's spending more time at whichever hospital she mainly works at in Bangkok. She has treated many people in Pattaya and I've never heard anyone say a bad word about her. I know one guy who was diagnosed with malignant melanoma and he swears she saved his life. If you can find out which hospital in Bangkok she mostly works at you would do well to book an appointment with her. Or book an appointment in Pattaya and enjoy a few days by the seaside at the same time.

Her background and experience are explained in this article from the Pattaya Mail:

The Thammasat University Hospital Skin Clinic in Rangsit is headed by Dr. Padcha who is an expert with Western, as well as Thai, skin.  She did research and participated in skin clinics for a year at major US universities on two occasions.  She understands Western skin and is the best dermatologist that I have encountered anywhere in the world. She has removed two skin cancers from me.  She has my highest recommendation.  Good luck,  Don

Yeah, I concur, regarding Dr Anna, she's excellent, though I've only ever seen her once, and didn't have anything very complex, I just had some new growths all over my back that I wanted to have checked and i didn't want to run the gauntlet/crap shoot and be unlucky again and get an insane probably fake doctor mad experimentalist at Bumrungrad, I've had problems with that for other issues. Though to be fair I got a good skin cancer doctor at Bumrungrad for something that was starting to get out of hand and 8 years later no issues.

Anyway, Dr Anna, removed a bunch of non serious skin tags and other crap from my back, and my impression from that visit was she really is the picture of intelligence, thoughtfulness and seeming integrity that you want from a doctor. Quite good at expressing herself in English and understanding too. I've only ever been to her once but I'm sold on her, if I ever have any issues again I'm making a bee-line to her office and I pray she lives a works for quite awhile longer, there are very few like her out there.

Thank you all for you experiences.  I truly appreciate it.  I think I have my appointment made, they have to confirm, but it is good to see people willing to share.

Have a good day to all.
