My apologies regarding midnight v 11PM alcohol sales.  Just checked my local 7/11 and you are correct it is allowed until midnight!

They really need to reduce the high tariffs on drinks like foreign wines and fine scotch etc, I suspect that is what many tourists miss when visiting Thailand.
