Cold wave from China hits Thailand: Significant temperature drop and heavy rain forecast

Thailand is currently under the influence of a new surge of high-pressure area or cold air mass from China, as declared by the Thai Meteorological Department.

This has resulted in a drop in temperature across the country, with the north-eastern region experiencing a decrease of 5 to 8 degrees Celsius, and the capital city, Bangkok, seeing a drop of 5 degrees. The department also warns of a heavy to very heavy rain forecast for the southern region today.

This cold air mass has enveloped the upper part of Thailand and the South China Sea, resulting in colder weather and stronger winds. The northern region will see a temperature decrease of 4 to 6 degrees Celsius, central Thailand and the eastern region, including Bangkok and its vicinity, will experience a drop of 3 to 5 degrees Celsius, and the upper southern region will see a decrease of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius.

The mountainous areas of the northern region are on alert for cold to severe cold weather with the lowest temperatures between 3 and 13 degrees Celsius, and the possibility of frost in some areas. Similarly, the mountainous areas of the northeastern region are expecting cold to severe cold weather with temperatures dropping to between 6 and 12 degrees Celsius.

The public in these areas are advised to take care of their health due to the cold weather and to be cautious of potential hazards from wildfires caused by dry weather and strong winds, reported KhaoSod.

Exactly.

Despite El Nino, the Polar Vortex has collapsed to cause this spread of cold weather across the north.

If they do not get some serious rain soon then the water chucking idiocy will have to be cancelled

Yeah

I heard they were getting the ski lifts reay at Kho Kradong in Buriram

If your denying Global weather changes due to some local cold weather, that only shows you know nothing about Global warming.  You should probably  steer clear of any conversation needing a moderate   IQ and understanding of basic science.

When was the last time December had some serious rains? And Songkran is still 120 days away

And with that on goes the A/C that's taken a hammering this month  🤔

Sure beats the usual heat and humidity.   Best time of the year.

Hottest December (so far) I've experienced in Pattaya in 18 years here. The cool weather hasn't reached here yet - maybe tonight. I just went for a ride on my motorcycle at 10 pm and it was 27C. My electric bill which arrives on the 20th of the month was higher than in November and October. That hasn't happened before.

You do know there is a difference between climate and weather, right?

One of the effects of climate change leaving to an overall, average rise in global temperatures is increasing extremes of weather.

This means not only higher highs but also periods of lower temperatures, heavier rainfall (accompanied by floods) interspersed with longer, more extreme droughts.

So yes, temporary periods of colder weather are indeed a feature of an overall rise in average worldwide yearly temperatures.

Yes. I do kmow the difference between climate and weather, but unfortunately the Main Stream Media appears not to, hence my sarcasm.

Have you not noticed that every time there is an extreme weather event, the masss media tends to describe it as another example of climate change? They even sometime describe the cause of the extreme weather event being climate change, apparently not understanding that 'climate change' is a result, not a cause.

What's also amazing is that they seem to think that the worst flood or storm in a hundred years is another example of 'anthropogenic climate change', when basic logic should enable them to understand that an equally severe, or even more severe event 100 years ago, before CO2 emissions began rising, would suggest that such a current, extreme weather event could be within the range of normal and natural climate.
