110,000-Plus Debtors Point Finger At Over 81,000 Loan Sharks

A TOTAL OF 110,000-PLUS people have so far claimed to owe a combined seven billion baht in illicit debt to 81,000-plus loan sharks in all provinces of the country, a senior government official said yesterday (Dec.26).

 

Sutthipong Chulcharoen, undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, confirmed that 110,531 people have informed the authorities since Dec.1 of the illicit debt which they have separately claimed to currently owe to 81,073 illegal money lenders.

 

Of the total of these indebted people with a combined 7.04 billion baht in illicit debt, 96,002 have notified the authorities online whilst 14,529 others have done so in person at district offices and police stations in all provinces nationwide.

Always someone else's fault.  If you can't afford the payment schedule, don't accept the loan.

 

Learn how to live within your means.   If you can't pay cash (except house purchase), then you probably can't afford to buy it now.

With the average household debt running into the 100s of thousands of baht, I would expect it could be 100s of thousands of people or more...

Don't know why there are not policies in govt to make loans available at reasonable interest rates from official financial institutions and limit what the loans can be used for to help these people rather than them going to loan sharks.
