Covert Human Trafficking Network Busted Transporting Bangladeshi Labor

The Immigration Bureau announced the successful apprehension of a covert human trafficking network responsible for smuggling Bangladeshi laborers into Malaysia through Thailand, charging them over 100,000 Baht per head.

 

Lt. Gen. Itthipol Itthisarnranchai, Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, along with Lt. Col. Phanthana Nuchnarnth, Deputy Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, and relevant officers, jointly held a press conference regarding a case where immigration police in Pattani province arrested Mr. Laor, a 56-year-old suspect with an arrest warrant from Pattani Provincial Court. The charges include "knowingly allowing foreigners to enter the kingdom, concealing, or assisting in any way to help foreigners escape apprehension by authorities."

 

Following an extension of the investigation from October 30, 2023, Lt. Col. Phanthana and Pattani Provincial Police, together with the 44th Army Division, set up a security checkpoint in Takua, Sai Buri district, Pattani. The operation resulted in the arrest of Mr. Jeara Arong, 64, along with two Isuzu vehicles, two mobile phones, and seven Bangladeshi nationals attempting to enter Malaysia covertly. The arrested individuals paid 100,000-140,000 Baht each for this illicit passage, reported INN News.

 

Further investigation revealed that Mr. Laor played a key role in the international human trafficking operation, serving as the driver to smuggle Bangladeshi nationals from their hiding place in Aranyaprathet district, Sa Kaeo province, to Mr. Jeara Arong in Yaring district, Pattani, who then facilitated their illegal entry into Thailand. The arrested individuals were subsequently transported to the Sadao Police Station in Songkhla province for legal proceedings.

 

Mr. Laor remains a crucial figure in the database of human trafficking operations, particularly in the southern region, Unit 6 of the Border Patrol Police, having shown activity in 2024. This recent apprehension connects him to the larger network involving Mr. Larmor, who previously smuggled Myanmar labor into the lower southern region in 2020.

Time Thailand was dropped to the very bottom of the list of human smuggling nations.

So they arrested the trafficking victims rather than offering them protection - this is one of the specific reasons that they keep getting low rankings on the Trafficking in Persons Reports, and yet they keep doing it (and then keep complaining about their low ranking).
